Kim I think almost everyone experiences that. Your body stores carbs and water up for the healing, so it only appears that you are going backwards for a few weeks. I'm by no means lean like DR yet!! probably still carrying around 5 - 6 Kg's of extra fat just to be what I would call my normal size not even super lean - BUT I have lost at least 10Kg's of fat that I previously had as well as some sodium water weight (can't say how much) and I'm only on about 50/50 raw/cooked, AND I probably more avocados than I should (usually cause of too much work, running out of calories and reaching for the last thing left in the house... but that's just down to organisation). But I never starve myself and I'm never suffering for it, and it just went by itself, and is still going. I have more energy and all this with hardly any exercise, a bit of walking a couple of hours a week at the most (I'm trying to work in more because I actually enjoy exercise now, but I digress...)  Even not fully following DR and Freelees advice even then, I've lost all that weight and without starving or doing much at all, always eat what I want.

Point is, the BEST advice I would say is to forget about size and weight, just put that out of your mind just for the minute, and focus on how you *feel*. Stay carbed, get AS MUCH sleep as you can and stay super hydrated seriously those are really KEY. The more deep long sleep you can get, I would say 14 hours a day while in healing phase if you can plus staying hydrated and carbed at the same time, in my experience those are the times when I got lots of sleep that I woke up and went about my day and noticed hey I really seem to have dropped weight almost over night. Again, that's not water weight from dehydrated, I drink through the night etc, and have a big smoothie in the morning, but you can see it's the healing process that is causing you to lose the weight the body is just dropping the garbage, and water and sleep are so KEY to that. Just forget about weight and appearance initially.  With the sleep I don't know why but early nights are so key as well, if you can go to bed at 6 and wake up at 6 or 8 on the weekends depending on your work situation, that's the best. I find my body naturally gets very tired between 6 and 8 and has a nice sleep feeling - if I follow that I always have a good sleep. If I push past that to 9 or later adrenaline kicks in and I actually wake up, which makes me stay awake later, and then it's just a downhill situation from there, next day my energy levels are less than half, mental awareness is way down and just can't do what I want to do. Under that kind of stress, which is what it is - it's a form of sleep deprivation even if we think it's voluntary, to the body it's the same effect - the body naturally holds on to fat and water and metabolism slows down.

The second thing that helped me a lot to just move things is simple walking, not even power walking just going at the pace that is enjoyable and to an amount you feel good with. Don't stress the body by pushing it is my opinion, just do what feels good, even if it's just 10 minutes stroll to start with on day one, do more the next day if you feel like it. Relax and rest. Sleep in the afternoon if you can.

Could you elaborate on why we gain weight on this diet at the beginning? I have TRIED so hard to start and then I gain! I usually last 1 month and then I cannot stand the extra weight. I know its a good diet but what is going wrong? (I could be eating to much salt) (I will try to leave it out form this moment on. Thanks for the advice.

I am a "newbie" who just came off a fast. I am in the process of watching my body regulate. I am doing the dates for breakfast, and bananas for lunch, and at least a gallon of water. Salad for dinner or potatoes...Thanks Freelee and Durianrider!
