@ Tony, thank you. That put a smile on my face :)

@ Peter, glad we share the same opinion. It really is a shame. I've been caught many times dumpster diving in the past and the dumpster hasn't been locked. But I've learned now that it's just nicer at night since I can take my time, and I try my hardest not to get caught now and I haven't since. I compost it too, amazing quality dirt for next years garden!!!

Yup.  Headlamps are nice.  I want one of those.

Thank you so much for answering my questions, and yes I would love to see another video!

So crazy all that is thrown out!

Hi Heather,

I too don't care if people see me but I don't want anyone from the supermarket to see me as they would probably attached a lock to the particular dumpster which I consider to be a gold mine to me. I want my activity to remain sustainable.

Otherwise I share your attitude. I believe diving is a 'public good' from both an economic and environmental perspective. Valuable resources are being used that otherwise would add to landfill. Anything that I gather which isn't of suitable quality I compost.

@ Peter, I share it with my family, but they only eat a small portion of it. I ate all those oranges yesterday and the cantaloupes today.

@ Jennifer - I can do another video about those questions. But yes I'm VERY picky of what I take out of there because there's so much to choose from. I don't take anything that is close to the dumpster floor. I usaully only take things that are resting ontop of everything. I take things with thick skin, or that have been in packages. I dont take anything that has "mystery slime on it" haha. and when I get home I take everything out of their original containers and wash it using a "vegetable wash solution"

Wow thank you guys for the overwhelming amount of support! :) I love you all!!

@ Tiffany - I've gone dumpster diving in broad daylight where the dumpster was completely out in the open, and there were lots of lookers, but most people just ignored me. I have no shame because I know what I'm doing is right ;) Lighted areas are nicer because then you can see when it's dark.

@Mike Yikes, sounds gross. Yeah the heat will do that, it's great it's getting cold in NH so the stuff stays better for longer. But hey, it's a good thing there isn't that much produce waste in Texas! One of the reasons I do this is because i'm disgusted at the volume of good food that goes to waste and I want to help reduce that amount.

I'll message people the store I went to if they're interested :) It's a chain of stores thats spread across the east side of the USA.

crazy! i used to go diving with friends for food not bombs and i have never seen that much food! when we would find stuff it'd always be bread, tortillas and old junk food.  The texas heat makes a wicked dumpster juice that gets on everything and spoils it extra fast. :(  also the grocers in my areas have always gave to community kitchens and would hardly throw out food.

you're lucky!
