After 53 revolutions around our dwarf star, I've pretty much run the gamut of all diets known to man beginning with the Atkins diet in the early '80's. Daily abuse of my body became the norm as I fought it to comply with my idea of cultural beauty and as I struggled with college life. I became a runner when I was 21 and decided I actually needed carbs to fuel my running passion and became a vegetarian. On and off through the years I oscillated between lacto-veg and vegan as I acquired more knowledge about human nutrition. Mind you, this was a time when you had to go a healthfood store to get whole grain bread. There was a brief period where I decided I "needed" fish for optimal health (not); but as my search continued, I learned about the importance of being an ethical vegan and remained on a cooked, vegan diet for a few years. I initially learned about raw nutrition through David Wolfe's and Dr. Gabriel Cousens' literature and web sites. I went back and forth from high fat raw with expensive "superfoods" to cooked vegan for about a year until I came upon some really strange and intriguing characters on UTube....Harley Johnstone and Freelea! Ha! First, I laughed my ass off at their humor and their audacity and then I got serious wanting to learn why they were so passionate about their lifestyle and why they were NOT selling any super foods and supplements! The rest is history.."mine eyes were opened" and I quickly and secretly ordered Doug Graham's 80-10-10 book (my husband is a cooked vegan). Okay, so now I HAVE to join 30baD because I've been going to the site every day now for months! I was a member of another raw group site-RawRehab-but it doesn't even compare...I initially lost interest and dropped out (along with the gourmet high fat raw) way before I knew about 30baD. Anyway, your site is my go-to place for answers/info/vids/humor/intelligent life in the universe, you name it, about this incredible and amazing lifestyle!

I just cannot learn enough about this amazing lifestyle I've stumbled upon. 30BaD is indeed a unique site offering knowledge and motivation, as well as camaraderie, community--all, I feel, are 100% essential for practicing this lifestyle day in and day out. I am a Registered Nurse employed in a medical hospital and I see the chronic diseases and "un" wellness that plague the human condition-all, in my opinion-self-induced through cultural lifestyle, medical advice or just plain ignorance. This fuels my desire to help others, as well as myself, to live a life of quality; a life of optimal health in the physical and mental realms. None of us are consigned to live lives riddled with degenerative issues-there are other options! Thank you Harley and Freelea and the rest of this community for this site!

Hi Isabel! I got your comment on my video in email, but it is not showing up in the comments section to reply to - but wanted to be sure I answered your question. I COMPLETELY understand because I was the first in my family to eat like this too. Also the "mom/wife" etc. I said, "you know how when you just eat salad you are hungry soon after? This is similar, because these are water based foods and I need a lot of them to make the same calories as what you are having." Then I'd point to a HUGE bowl I was eating and say, "this is under 400 calories...if I didn't eat more than this, it wouldn;t fill me up for long." Also, once I got them to try a raw meal and they ate "normal" amounts and were hungry 30 min later, they understood. Hope that helps a little! XOX
