Posted on December 13, 2009 at 9:07pm 7 Comments

Okay so I've been staying raw but definitely not updating as much as I want. I can definitely use some help on the international social acceptance issue if anyone has any experience. Otherwise I WELCOME ANY AND ALL COMMENTS regarding starting a good exercise plan in a polluted city (Beijing) or my diet in… Continue

Struggling a lot lately

Posted on June 20, 2009 at 3:20pm 1 Comment

I've been struggling a lot lately with limboing between 811 and not. I think this in part has to do with me going from SAD to 811 in the course of just a few weeks after much research. This past april/may I was 100% 955 and felt euphoric the entire time. Now with all the knowledge I've amassed from studying diet so much, I can't NOT be 955. I've cut out all the other options logically and I KNOW i feel best this way--still I slip. My mom buys me beer ocassionally as a nice gesture and I've had… Continue

hey Constantin,

so cool that you are in china! haha, i'm saying this because i also live in china, shanghai to be exact. so i share all of your mixed emotions about being 811 here. a tip about exercising - you might want to find a local park to run in... usually parks are great for fresh air and have nice path to tred for joggers. i would definitely stay away from running in the polluted streets. (sometimes when i'm crossing the street and there are massive traffic, i purposely hold my breath for as long as i can... until i can find a place to breathe safely. lol~)

anyway nice to meet you~

awesome!!! Are you anywhere close to a gym called The Rock Club (TRC) ? My "sister" is the manager there.... and the climbing coach.

I am mainly a boulderer. I will do routes on occasion but bouldering is what holds my heart. =) In fact, i decided to drop out of the SCS competition circuit mid-season this year. What about you? bouldering or sport?

gah i would loooove to go to thailand. I'm planning a trip... next year!

Hi Constantin - didn't mean to take long to write back. I just got home...
That is a good question about where to get bulk produce in NP... and I have been pondering it myself lately. Although I've been eating high raw for quite some time I just recently have been gravitating to the 811 diet so I am only beginning to seek out large volumes of fruit/veggies...

But I have some ideas - I think that Robin's Market on Rt 32 in New Paltz would probably let people buy crates of their produce. I know that they distribute to local restaurants. They used to sell bulk grapes to a former neighbor - (he used them to make wine)....

There is also Wallkill View Farm Market right on Rt 299. You will/do pass it on the way to the Gunks. The name of the family that owns it is the Ferrantes. They may be amenable to selling you high volume at a discount.

Personally - although it's expensive - when I can swing it financially - I like to get organic vegetables/fruit from the "Health & Nutrition Center" in the Stop & Shop Plaza in NP. (Haven't asked them yet about buying in bulk).

To answer your Climbing question - I used to climb in the late 80's/early 90's (I'm a wee bit older than you are! But I still usually feel like a kid -not to say that you are a kid. Don't want to put my foot in my mouth!). I didn't really do any lead-climbing, but I would partner with a leader friend and remove the gear or I would top-rope with them. My friends were rock-climbing guides and really were amazing.
I went back to school and lost touch with most of them. But the main reason I don't climb anymore is because a couple of years ago I went through a stressful period in my life, unintentionally lost over 18% of my body-weight - from 110 pounds to 90 in a short period and had a serious injury.

One day I happened to drop my motorcycle and when I went to pick it up -which I had done a few times before without a problem- I broke my back.

Yeah it was insane. One minute I'm in one piece and the next I'm a heap in the driveway.... spent 3 months in the hospital and one month in a wheelchair....
I blame it on weak bones caused by the SAD diet (and the stress-related weight loss).
Incidentally my avitar/30BAD member photo was taken when I was immobilized in the hospital with the back fractures.

I'm so happy that I can now walk/hike & do most things etc (except lift > 30 or 40pounds)... and I don't get much pain anymore.

Anyway don't wish to blab your ear off (or eyes off) But that is the main reason why I don't climb. I don't want to risk a hard-landing or something because I do not ever wish to be in the hospital with broken bones (or for any reason) again.

BTW - I might do a bit of a hike at the preserve tomorrow- maybe I'll see you around the Trapps region....
