I've always loved animals! Since the day I was born, I'm quite sure. Between the ages of 13 and 18 it was my dream in life to become a veterinarian. I began studying pre-vet medicine at the agricultural college in my province and after one semester I was at my wits end. It turned out to be a highly competitive program and when the "field-trips" we were taken on brought me to tears I knew it was time to give it up. I couldn't continue with this horrible feeling that I was promoting animals being raised for consumption in turn, destroying our planet. In saying this, I've struggled even just to hold up a strict vegetarian diet let alone an all raw, high carb vegan one - but it's something I've wanted for myself for a long time. I see what factory farming is doing to our planet, I see how animals are being treated and it's heart-breaking. I've researched a lot about why veganism is - in my opinion - the healthiest way of living. Humans were not meant to eat animals or their derivatives, it surprised me to find out we weren't even designed to eat grains or nuts really. I began reading 80/10/10 and I was fascinated with what I learned. The way they explained different types of food for what they really are - like wine being rotten grape extractions. Pathogenic foods and bacteria. Just the thought of it is making me cringe. I just find it so hard to remind myself of these things when I walk into a kitchen that's filled with these foods - foods that I've grown up with, that I'm used to eating, that taste good to me right now because I don't stop to think about how they came to be, what they came from, or their original state. It's pretty disgusting. I know that it's going to be tough to transition and that's why I'm seeking support. I saw one of Freelee's videos on youtube and I started watching some other ones and eventually they lead me here. I want to be the healthiest I can be, I want to feel good about what I consume. I want long-lasting vitality and energy and I truly feel that aiming for the high carb, raw vegan diet will get me to where I want to be in the health aspect of my life. I feel that it will also put me in a better mental state over-all, knowing that what I'm consuming never had to suffer or be murdered, never went through any process to be manipulated into something edible when really it's not meant for me, or human, to eat.

My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are....
My favorite books - this is actually pretty embarrassing considering I'm 22 - but they're The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. I read them when I was like 15 but they are still my favourites to this day. I have no particular favorite author. My mom is an avid reader, we have a bookshelf chalk-full of books of all types - I pick and choose. When it comes to movies I'm a sucker for romance. I also enjoy comedies and romantic comedies (go figure). I've spent last two summers in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and I could not be more in love with them. There's no better high - literally - than being on top of a mountain, each one is just such a major accomplishment and it's so rewarding. The views are just so spectacular. As I said, I love animals - cat's are my favorite in particular. Hahah, anyone who knows me knows that and I'm just hoping I don't wind up some crazy cat lady.

Well. The area in which I live at this time is not exactly vegan-friendly. So I'm just looking for an outlet to express my trials and tribulations where I know there will be others who understand and can relate to what I'm going through. I may face problems or have questions during my transition it would just be really comforting to know there are people I can turn to who will help me overcome these obstacles.
