hey derrick, i had to cancel on the raw spirit festival last minute. i am also in the process of moving right now and it wouldn't have worked out. i wish you a fruity time!! let me know how abundant lfrv choices are, i might try to make it next year.
yup, growin my hair out too. I'm a tall (6'4") skinny dude so it probably won't be hard to spot me. mmmmhmm, fresh dates. I'll keep an eye out for you at their stand. I'll also PM my cell just in case.
Just joined your vagabond group and realised I don't have the 1 year min to qualify but I sure am excited by the prospect! Would love any recommendations on ways to secure food/accomodation whilst living the life. Volunteering/part time work, house sitting and couch surfing? Have had multiple conversations with my partner about this, trying to quash the seed of doubt and just take the leap!
Great news! I've watched a couple of your vids on youtube -- very cool stuff. I used to surf in my teens and 20's, but gave it up for the money game. I definitely need to get back into surfing again. I also need to get a SE Asia download from your brain :)
So yeah, I have a camping pass, but not sure if camping at the fest is gonna be peaceful. Gonna head down from SLC, UT around the 20th of Sept if you need a ride. Gonna bring my mt bike and pass through Moab and Southern Colorado on the way down.
I'm planning on taking a trip to south asia around December/January, and I was wondering if I could get your input. I'm trying to decide where to go.
I saw your thread on Davao, and it seemed pretty awesome, i'm wondering how it stacks up against Thailand and other SA destinations in your opinion. Also, I'm traveling with a couple of divers. Is Davao a good destination for divers?
do you know of any good resources to learn about the various regions of SA?
Finally booked my flight. I'll be arriving in Singapore on July 30, spend a few days there, hopefully hang out a bit with Fruiteater, then I may head back to Australia to tie up a few loose strings there, and then head back to SE Asia to travel up through Malaysia to Thailand again, and probably spend some time at Pagnan again (but nothing fixed). So, if you are going to be in malaysia, I would love to catch up with you to get an education on durian and the fruit there. I survive almost solely on bananas over here during much of the year, so I'm looking forward to something different. Am I ready for the vagabonding lifestyle yet? I would say I would be ready to cut all ties with work and life here in about 1.5 years. But if a few things go well, I may be out of here even earlier. For now, my focus is to save a little more so I can "check out" for good. Then I'll be learning from you. Also, if you are still going to be in Davo at the beginning of August, and I can get a cheap flight from Singapore, then I may be able to come and check our your adopted home.
i'm leavin penang in a couple of days. i had a great time. durian peak season has pretty much finished and quality drops..i spent a fair bit of time with Nick and Steven. we did some nice jungleruns and went swimming at forest park. durian quality was good during the last couple of weeks. i check your blog regulary and maybe we will meet at some durian stall out there soon...
Hi Darrick, fruit is a bit sparse here in Perth (and expensive). I'm off real soon though, I have a bicycle and trailer now, just need to pull the trigger and head off. I'm contemplating hitting up Asia before I go to far north queensland, any day now...
How is life? I've been pretty busy busy here in Tokyo, but my holidays are coming again in August and September. So, where are you these days, and were will you be in Aug and Sept? Are you planning to meet up with Harley, Freelee, Nick etc?
Life its all there is in SD. Sticking around for a while. I have made up my mind and become a vagabond.
Got rid of my cell phone. Got rid of my gym membership.
Now all that is left is to initiate that one step to travel.
How is everything in the Phillipines??
I have to admit, and I am being truthful, you were one of the people that inspired me to do this. :)
i'll be heading over to asia soon. where are you at now? would be great to meet up. im thinking of heading to penang but maybe its a bit too early. where would you recommend now for great fruit and a beautiful environment?
I´m hanging out at the moment in my place. near berlin is an nature reserve as i told you. we run an guest house with a bar and hostel. if you like check out the website: ahlimbsmühle.de
i try to find a cheap flight to kuala lumpur. june is the next possible opportunity fo me to leave. my girlfriend had a baby at the 31th of march. so i´m a very proud father of a boy.. his name is justus noah- my girlfriend had no help while she gave birth. unfortunately i was away earning money in another town. diana lives on a raw vegan diet for almost 2 years. justus will live from raw fruit and veg only. as soon as diana stops breast feeding of course!
i´m sure you and me should catch up very soon. maybe in penang in a few months for a durian feast?
i read your comment about davao, sounds like fruit lovers paradise.
