I am finally out of the first trimester of pregnancy and although I fell off the wagon significantly for a few weeks there, I still managed to make most of my meals all fruit. I'm trying to stay positive and focused here... Anyhow, last weekend I went home for the weekend and our neighbors have an orange, grapefruit, and 2 different varieties lemon trees. They never pick the fruit and it usually falls to the ground and rots. Every winter I usually get a few pieces, but this weekend when I asked if I could take some and the man of the house said "honey, take all you want", I fully took him up on that and pretty much picked the orange tree clean. I left about 8 oranges... I know it looked really greedy but NOBODY ever gets the fruit, the little girl that lives there is often seen kicking the oranges around the yard and its going to freeze soon and then the fruit won't be good anymore. These are the arguments I made to justify taking practically ALL the oranges. I got close to 100 oranges, which will last me about a week or less. These oranges are amazingly sweet without the least bit of acidity. Up until now, I have never had a perfectly ripe orange and assumed the acidity was just a part of the natural flavor of oranges. Its going to be pretty difficult to enjoy oranges any less ripe now. Also, I tried a persimmon a few weeks ago and wasn't too impressed. However, I got a few more a week ago and have been waiting on them to ripen, I just ate one and although I don't like the skin, I peeled it off with my teeth, the flesh had a flavor very similar to Bluebell's homemade vanilla icecream, which I have always loved. Unfortunately bananas and dates just don't appeal to me right now... whenever I eat bananas for a least one meal a day, I find dessert type foods (icecream, cake, candy) very unappetizing, discovering this kind of changed my world because I used to be big on desserts. Lately without the bananas though I occassionally will eat a piece of candy, a very small portion, not nearly as giant as the dessert portions I used to crave. Hopefully the great quality dates (a quart's worth) that I bought fresh and froze a few months ago will start looking better to me soon... Anyway, just wanted to update on some happenings on my transition to a fruitarian diet, I've obviously had some setbacks but am still making progress and definitely in a better place than I was 6 months ago.
