30 Bananas a Day!

The guinea pigs had a baby yesterday! :) Sooo Cute!

I love to look at them while I'm running on the treadmill when I run on the treadmill at the house. So it was extra special to do my barefoot run on the treadmill this morning while watching them AND the new baby just born yesterday! :) Soooo cute! :) No wonder the mom has been so hungry lately. LOL

Guinea pigs and rabbits make great companions for 80-10-10 people IMO. They like to eat the same sorts of things, but often different parts (especially the guinea pigs). They are small and furry and cute. Bunnies are quiet and litter trainable, but need more room than guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are sometimes litter trainable, not quiet though. LOL Cute bizarre sounds though. Both guinea pigs and bunnies like to have cages and places to hide in their cages, so it's not like keeping a bird in a cage or anything. They feel more secure in there and are happier with a cage, as long as they have enough room to move around and get out for exploring every once in a while (with access to their cage if they get frightened while out that is).

When we are able to stay at the farm we're gonna' move the guinea pigs and rabbit there with us. We're gonna' have a big fenced in compound for them with the hutches (cages) all around the outside and then we can open up the doors to their hutches most of the day and let them come and go as they please. We'll only have about 1/4 of the compound accessible at a time though, so that we can let the grass, carrots and whatnot that I grow for them in there grow up and recover from their trompling and grazing. :)

They are ever so cute! You really give them an amazing diet. :-) They seem to thrive.

Thanks Alicia! Your house rabbit sounds great! I she litter box trained? :)

Ednshell - enjoy your future companions! :) I forgot to mention a few things to note about guinea pigs and rabbits... bunnies eat the same as the guinea pigs, but the guinea pigs shouldn't eat alfalfa hay that bunnies can eat. Timothy hay is best & works for the bunny too. Guinea pigs also need vitamin C in their diet somehow, are more sensitive to lack of it than humans apparently. It's no problem when feeding them fresh things though 'cause most of 'em have loads of vitamin C. A 'cold' or fasting can be deadly for a guinea pig, due to the vitamin C thing and all. Bunnies can literally be scared to death. Guinea pigs show their fear more than bunnies so it's easier to tell they're scared... bunnies and guinea pigs can be housed together, but it all depends on the individuals whether it's safe or advisable. There are things you can do with their housing set-up to help. Lots of people on the Web with either or both that love to help too! They are such sweet animals and I love 'em lots!!! :)

Ahhhhh!!! How precious! I have a lovely 'house rabbit'!
She is my little raw vegan kindred spirit!
I make my dinner and hers at the same time!
I love it cause, she is the only one in my home who eats like I do!
Congratulations on the new baby!

Yeah, Brian, I love how interesting they are, bizarre sounds and such too. Yeah, I'm a big "guinea pig slave" LOL - I spoil 'em with lots and lots of fresh veggies and fruits.

Ednshell, I feed them discards from what I eat 'cause they like parts of things I don't eat and don't eat the parts I do of many things. I also share what they do eat of what I eat. We all eat lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes (although one of 'em doesn't eat much of those, others can't get enough LOL). They eat lots of fresh grasses & dried ones (hay). They like watermelon rinds, corn husks, banana peels, celery leaves and things like that that I don't eat. They also love parsley and cilantro, dandelion and other greens. They're not supposed to have cabbage and things in that family though, so I skip brassica greens to play it safe.

The bulk of what they eat is the grass & hay though. There's lots of other things they eat too, but the list would go on and on in that way 'cause I eat a large variety of fruits and veggies and will always see if they like it too. You know, experimenting on my guinea pigs. LOL To see what they like and what they don't... They have different preferences than each other too, so you can't really generalize too much about what any one in particular will eat without knowing them. I'd say thought that all of 'em will eat grass & hay.

They drink water too, but not much if they've got the fresh fruits and veggies and all...

So what exactly do you feed them?

That's adorable haha. I had several guinea pigs growing up as a kid. They are such funny little animals. The noises they make are hilarious. What I like most about them are their separate characters and mannerisms. Each one is different and individual from the rest. They are having quite the feast in the above picture, wow : )
