Successful banana ripening experiment for colder weather

Hi. Attached below is a successful banana ripening experiment. i got this from a forum post from Nate, a USA citizen in atlanta LFRV group page. I tried this experiment and it makes adopting this lifestyle many times easier, as in the winter it gets very cold in many parts of the world. Bananas simply do not ripe. I always prefer ripe bananas as they are sweet. Spotty = ripe!

The instructions- just keep boxes under an electric blanket on "2" setting, and keep a woolen throw on top to cover it better. keep it overnight for 2 nights and it will ripen. if you are in an even colder environment keep two throws on top.

Total materials required-

Electric blanket - $15 in USA?

Woolen throw - $10 (i already had one spare).

A few boxes.

Below the one on the right is the one NOT placed on blanket. the one on the left was placed for 1-2 nights only with significant results. Both were bought at the same time on the same day at same place. The right one is not spotty at all. and the Left box i have eaten nearly most of it.

re -waste of electricity, a non-issue electric blanket is only .1 kw per hour on above setting, so 24 hours is about 2.4kW or about 65cents per day.

hi i have tried to cover them and it didn't work without blanket on. poor results. i tried the light on method but didn't work, every oven is different, poor result obtained for me personally.

I keep them in my oven with the light on.  Works well.

Cool. Sounds like a waste of electricity though to have an electric blanket running like that. I wonder if just covering them up would suffice?
