30 Bananas a Day!

I am beginning to think I may never catch a break to succeed. In the last few weeks, I tried running again. It was very hard, but I was able to run 1 mile with barely a break. I did this a few days in a row, but would 2-3 miles 2 days each week. Well, I now dealing with excruciating pain right below the 5th metatarsal and there is a visible lump. It hurts no matter what I do. Probably went too far running too soon - with the extra body weight, not helping at all. Any tips on healing this bone?

I am in so much pain - could not sleep last night. Got it xrayed this AM. Standard xray showed nothing. :( Not sure if it could still be fractured but not show up on the xray. I saw a traditional doctor and he thought a cyst could be the issue, too. It is very painful!!!!!

Actually sounds like dancer's break after the way Kristin described it - i got it from Irish dancing: landing right on the edge of my foot, felt something move, no pain but then every now and again I'd plant on a very specific part of my foot and then It would feel like it had been completely shattered for the whole day. The arch supports in my shoes made it really hard to avoid putting weight on it. I don't remember doing anything in particular (the wart in the same area didn't help) but I do remember it just went once I got simpler shoes and got my feet stronger.

The same thing happened to me this week!!! Started running outdoors again and the outer left side of my left foot is now killing me.. I don't have a visible lump but it is definitely swollen and when I walk feels like there's a steel rod in there. Same thing happened to me last summer when I was a big runner, a week off seemed to do the trick. Not sure of anything specific though to heal it. Currently, I'm icing mine. Good luck!

Honestly don't know a huge amount about healing it - water, and keeping it warm and circulation going down there.
As for prevention - what's your running technique/shoe? It might not have been a that you were running too far but that you were planting wrong while running and so stressing that one part of your foot. I very much believe in the barefeoot running style, so much less impact on your joints and your feet won't let you run with bad technique for more than 50 metres.
Hopefully you heal up and get to move on soon.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this, FF

Get it checked out by a trusted, well qualified chiro, who has the option of an x ray machine.  If something is out of place, he'll know it, and possibly be able to reset it or at least refer you to one who can.  

Otherwise at least you'll have peace of mind.  

Rest up, keep weight off the paw as best you can, eat foods rich in calcium and vitamin C, and hydrate amply.
