30 Bananas a Day!

Social situations can be tricky. I am documenting these things I try to see what works for me, because I am still pretty new to this lifestyle. So far, everything is going well socially and I don't feel like the social aspect is too much of an issue yet. 

People kind of treated me weird anyway for being a vegetarian, but they got over my animal free diet pretty quickly, and they are getting over the high fruit diet too. 

So here is what I am doing: 

First, I never say that I am 811RV. I always just say that I love fruit! People will say, "you eat so much fruit," and I just say, "yeah its my favorite!" And then if they say things like its really high in sugar, or anything like that, I just say, "well, its a better addiction than cheetos or diet coke, I guess," or brush it off that way.

I never try to prove that I am healthier for it or even discuss it in that context. I just say, "I love bananas!" When people ask me to go out to eat, I usually say that I am not too hungry and just have a salad, or that I love salad, or that I am trying to save money by eating out less because I am saving up for XYZ or school, etc. Most of the people in my life don't see me for the entire day, and so they just assume I eat "normally" at home and just take fruit for convenience. If someone mentions a cooked food they like that I used to eat, I just say that its delicious. 

I am not ready, nor do I look like an example of health enough yet for people to be seeking me out for advice and to go public with my lifestyle choices. When I am rock hard, I will probably be more open because then nobody can say anything to me. 

In addition, if people offer me a food I liked that is cooked, I usually say something like, well I have digestive disorders that upset my stomach when I eat high fat, or if its in a wrapper, and I want to avoid it altogether, I just accept it and then I don't eat it. This happens a lot with candy. 

Since I am new to the raw food lifestyle, its easier just to avoid the issue until I am doing it confidently for a while, and then when people question it later, I can say, well, I have been eating this way for X amount of months and I feel great and look great.


I am waiting for people to come to me. 

One other thing, I have lost a lot of weight recently, and people ask what I am doing, I just say, eating a lot of fruits and veggies and running two + miles a day. Again, I am not hot enough yet to come out with my diet. 

The few people who do know just think its an experiment, or a short term thing. I even had a friend who did it for two weeks with me. Its fine! :)

How do you deal with parties and such? Do you ever drink? I think thats the biggest problem for me in school. I've never been able to handle peer pressure very well, so trying to make up excuses for not drinking is super hard. Esp when your trying to be social and meet people in college.

You are a good influence... haha! I became somewhat of an antisocial person when I decided I wanted to get healthy. I need to find health-conscious friends.

I guess it could be challenging in school when people are always asking you why you eat a certain way. Sounds like you have it under control though. For many years I have been in the same circles as vegetarians and vegans, so I have come to take it for granted that most of my friends are eating the same way. Now the 811is another story cause it isn't even the regular raw. So I will heed some of your advice and when they start saying wow, you look great..."what are you doing"...I will tell them.
