30 Bananas a Day!

I couldn't understand why for the past week I was craving rice and pasta like crazy! I was getting a minimum of 2600 calories a day, and still desperately wanting anything starchy with tomatoe sauce.  I found out I am 4 weeks pregnant yesterday and am beginning to suspect that is why the cravings were so strong, maybe I need to take in a lot more calories to prepare my body for pregnancy?  The cool thing is that I will get to see how eating a fruit based diet makes me feel compared to how I ate with my first pregnancy. Initially, with that pregnancy, I was eating lots of leafy greens and whole grains (macrobiotic) and experimenting with gourmet raw vegan, but then the mere thought of a leaf of kale made me want to gag and I took a complete 180 and started eating lots of junk food from the gas station for 3 weeks straight. I was eating stuff I would have previously turned my nose up to and completely disgusted by leafy greens. I read somewhere that most leafy greens, especially those that taste bitter, have natural toxins in them. I read that certain Asian elephants that eat lots of leafy greens, make a monthly "pilgrimage" to a water hole to drink and also slurp up the clay at the bottom of the water hole, which helps them remove those toxins from their body. That got me thinking about women I've heard of that crave eating red dirt (high in clay) while pregnant.  Anyway, just thoughts that go through my mind. I know a lot of holistic practioners recommend some types of clay for detoxing, like bentonite. I'm not sure, I tend to lean toward natural hygiene, but the elephants "supplement" and that makes me think about it a little harder.  Anyway, that was a pretty random little rambling... Anyone have experience being pregnant LFRV?

@junglewoman interesting living situation, being lfrv is probably a lot more convenient than eating cooked foods:) Also if you do experience pregnancy cravings, it won't be so convenient to indulge them;)


@hannah I tend to eat lots of leafy greens, I can't make myself eat bitter ones like collards, but baby sweet greens I can eat. I am starting to think that anything "bitter" is probably not meant for us to eat, even though they say that some of this bitter tasting stuff is full of vitamins and minerals and good for us.

i am also about 4 weeks pregnant. no cravings yet...but then again i live in a room with no kitchen or stove or fridge. all i have are my boxes of fruit and my blender lol.

very interesting! it sounds like many people do not stick to 811 while pregnant, so I would LOVE to hear your updates and how everything is doing. I'm adding you as a friend :)


I think a lot about this stuff... Pica is interesting and I was thinking about pregnancy cravings and how weird they can be so I thought I wonder if people should/could just ignore them (I know it's not easy/impossible at times).. But now that I know about the clay.. Hmm..


One thing about green leafs... Many produce estrogen mimics as a survival mechanism.. They don't kill the person eating them, but can (if eaten in large quantities, like a mono diet of them as herbivores do) effect their offspring's ability to reproduce, therefore jeopardizing the groups survival. I read about that in a book called "our stolen future" which was a great read. Another similar book is "hormone deception".
