Olive, thanks for the great comment. I will surely keep that in mind when i go to make my next salad. If i can get down to 15-20 bucks a day that would be great! Right now I am not even close but after watching a few (10 or so) more of Michael A's vids i found out about http://www.doortodoororganics.com/ and that should help a bunch. Investing in health and voting with what we purchase is very important. Just finding the best places to purchase these items has been the greatest challenge of all for me.

i would also leave out the courgette and the radishes. such items are too costly for me in a daily salad. i would use 1-2 heads of the cheapest organic lettuce, some 8 oz of spinach, and a celery head, oh and maybe a lot of cucumber, since i can get them cheap. leaving out the tomatoes does not work for me yet, since without it tastes too bland (i am working on that though).
most of the time i am doing bananas and dates during the day, so that saves money. plus a huge (blended) salad in the evenings (maybe 3-4 evenings per week). i think i calculated once that i am spending between 15 and 20 dollars a day, which is ok for me. investing in health, and voting with my money, you know...

I figure, without buying the 2 tomatoes - $5 and using a full bunch/stalk of celery - $4, i could get the price down to $16 or so. I plan to crunch the ingredients through the cron0meter tomorrow.

If you are eating the entire thing at night, how much do you spend on your large regular salads?

I am a beginner taking my baby steps to 811... I have enjoyed the journey so far. Thanks for the replies and feedback.

ok everybody. The dimensions of the new box is 12.5inches x 13 inches and it is 5 inches tall (on the inside). This salad cost me around $25. All organic bought from Whole Paycheck/Foods Market.

I had put one full stalk of Romaine (1.26lbs), a full bunch of kale, a full batch of dandelion (it was around 17 stalks), two large tomatoes (they cost the most), a full bunch of celery, 14 medium radishes, 1 large zucchini, 1 large cucumber and 1 avocado.

For the dandelion... i cut off the thick part of the stalk like i do the kale. I think it doesn't bother be because it is mixed with the rest.

I was planning on eating 1/3 of it a night. If I could get the ingredients cheaper I would eat a half box a night (especially as I begin to workout more once I get through all the next video editing project). In fact I would love to have 3 of these boxes in my refrigerator. I say Michael "the fruitarian" Arnstein uses a huge floor waxing container to make his salads. Nice! I wonder if he still uses this.

Wow, I'm impressed you can eat dandelion raw. I still find it too bitter. Is there not very much in it?

I could definitely eat that much salad - lots of chewing though! Oh and it's probably just for aesthetic reasons since I already had nice bowls, but I make a huge salad and eat it in a small bowl with 2nd, 3rd and 4th helpings.

hmm, looks verry jammi.

i found the same size bowl, not made from glass, but made from wood, which is nice too.

and - i think i could eat that in one sitting :) i started blending my salads into green soups lately, so i can get sooo much more greens in (1.5 to 2 liters of this creamy soup sometimes). i know it is not perfect, and it would better to munch down the greens even without chopping them (to prevent oxidization), but i think it is great while i am still only a few months into lfrv.

I could eat half of that in an hour sitting :)
