Some of you may remember me blogging about my parents & their 30 day raw vegan challenge. I just wanted to update everyone on how it went & now more than a month after completing their challenge, I want to share with y'all where they are in their lifestyle/diet choices now.
They chose to take on the challenge not only for their health reasons, but to show their support for me. In the beginning it was a RAW vegan challenge, but they did not stay raw the whole time (but hey, that's ok) ... they tried to stay 811 but due to having trouble getting in enough calories they did eat foods such as rice, lara bars, cooked vegi's, etc.
They completed the 30 days, lost extra weight & both lowered their blood pressure. They both have had high blood pressure, my dad has had high blood pressure for a good portion of his life - they are now both within normal range which I think is amazing!
Neither of them call themselves vegans at this point, though for the most part they have adopted a vegan lifestyle with the exception of a few foods. I have noticed they seem more vibrant, more energy, etc. This challenge has caused them to take a good hard look around them, at what people would like to keep hush hush such as factory farming, MSG in foods, etc. These are 2 people in their late 50's who never before even thought about giving up meat or dairy & then overnight completely changed their lifestyle. They also could have chosen to go back to fast food & such but instead they are insistent on pursuing a healthier lifestyle.
I could write a lot more about this, but I fear I will end up boring everyone! But I am very excited for my parents & through this journey of theirs, a couple of their close friends have expressed interest in a more animal friendly lifestyle. :)
