I work at a grocery store and have access to some of the best produce in town, outside of the farmer's market. In alot of stores, the produce department will put the RIPE fruit on discount because most people don't eat their fruits until several days later and tend to buy underripe fruits. I can get a big sack of ripe bananas for a dollar and if I am really nice, I can get two sacks. I can get bags of ripe organic fruit for a fraction of the cost.
Now you may ask, what is the problem. I manage the deli and bakery departments. Even though the idea of eating meat disgust me, I can't help but be seduced by all the pastries, cakes, and baked goods. The killer is when I have to decorate cakes and make fruit tarts. I know all that sugar is bad bad bad but it is really like crack! Beautifully decorated cakes void of any nutrition. You might as well be eating cardboard soaked in sugar water. Oh and the looks I get from customers who ask me how do I like a certain product and I tell them I don't eat it or I am a vegan.
I can't see myself leaving my job. I like my job but sometimes it sucks being surrounded by death
