30 Bananas a Day!

Mostly Raw Vegan Looking Into Starch Solution...

Hello friends! I haven't posted anything about my digestion lately because it's all over the place. Some days will be good and then some horrid, with less good days than bad.

I have been vegan for 4 months, was first Rawtil4 then slowly switched to like 99% raw. I was hoping to eventually simplify it down to 801010.  I would eat cooked veggies sometimes, but always with a lot of raw food. While being RawTil4 my body did not like me combining a lot of fruit with a lot of starch, so that's why I went raw. I felt a little better but I am still having constipation and a lot of gas, and leaky gut all at the same time... I am wondering now if I would do better following the starch based diet. I believe my body can only handle one type of carb (fruit or cooked starch) in excess at a time. I feel it may be easier because Starch Solution would be similar to my diet before going vegan, minus the animal products and unhealthy fats and salt. This time I would follow the McDougall plan. Dr Mcdougall also gives less of a quantity to eat, so it seems more reasonable that way. I do still get uncomfortable after a huge fruit meal, maybe it just isn't right for me? I find the social aspects of my life may improve with SS, I won't always have to worry about having ripe fruit. It is cheaper. Also I live in Canada, so it's definitely not the tropics (which is the ideal place for a fruitarian).

Has anyone else had a similar experience or any advice?

I didn't have dates everyday with breakfast. But I always had bananas for breakfast. Well I was Rawtil4 for about a month, then began going raw for the next 3 months. I was never fully raw because I sometimes would eat cooked veggies (beets), but not very many. Most days I wouldn't eat cooked veggies though. Yes I ate avocados pretty often, as well as hemp seeds. Thats what my dressings for salad were based on usually. 

I suppose it could have been detox, but honestly I don't know. Nothing was improving digestion wise and I always felt like crap. This has been going on for a few months. Eating a lot of fruit like that gave me horrible gas, so embarrassing at school as well as at home, my poor family...haha. I was constipated and had diarrhea at the same time, if that makes any sense. I have IBS for sure, possibly diverticulitis, my mom has been diagnosed, and my bowel symptoms are the same as hers. It just wasn't working for me, all that fruit. When I look up detox, most people who are successful don't experience such abdominal discomfort for that long, and it was becoming unbearable. I really felt I had nothing to lose by trying something different.

well 10 bananas with dates are not ideal.. especially dates in the morning could be hard on the GI tract - even the word itself is" break fast - breaking the fast " :) i couldn't eat 10bananas with dates.. breakfast for me is usually something light - i usually have a green juice or water-rich fruit.. something like oranges or mangoes or watermelons etc

how long have you been raw? maybe what you experienced was detox? also did you have any fats such as avocados, coconuts, nuts, seeds?

Well the concept is still high carb low fat low salt. But the main component of your meal is starch such as cooked rice, potatoes, oatmeal, corn, or pasta. Breakfast includes some fruit, but lunch and dinner don't. Lunch and dinner do contain veggies though. Also beans are included if you want them too. I am keeping it very simple :) So today was my first day in 4 months not having a banana smoothie for breakfast, and I feel much better! 

So far today I have had:

1/2 cup oatmeal with 2 bananas, 3 dates, some brown sugar, and a little almond milk. I will up this to 1 cup of oatmeal from now on because I was hungry a short while later so I had...

2 slices of rye bread with raspberry jam.

Now for lunch I am having, as I type this, 3-4 cups of rice noodles with homemade (no salt) salsa, 1/2 a tomato, some green onion, cooked spinach, and lemon juice. So yum!

For dinner I'm not sure, but it looks like I will be having sweet potato and butternut squash. I will have greens too, probably a salad.

I was eating:

for breakfast a 10 banana smoothie sometimes with dates.

for lunch 4-8 cups chopped fresh fruit

for dinner a huge raw salad with greens, tomato, bell pepper, celery etc

no i haven't read/seen McDougall's talks on starch solution, what does your typical day look like? what do you eat?

Ohh I see. I have steamed squashes, acorn and butternut. They are very good but I don't eat them anymore really. I love eatig raw, but I just don't understand where this optimal digestion is that raw low fat vegans all have. I am still having a hellish time, especially at school...I would of course eat my Greens too. Have you seen any of Dr McDougalls talks on starch solution? Just wondering cause he says some pretty cool facts, and he has research to back it up! I found his diet first, even before rawtil4 and 801010 but never actually tried it. I feel like my digestion is in anguish :(

i am pretty much fully raw, the only exception when it's winter and there is not enough ripe fruit - than i may eat some soaked/sprouted slightly steamed quinoa or buckwheat (but only about once a week or ionce a month) 

if you do eat cooked meals - make sure to also eat lots of leafy greens (arugula, romaine or other lettuce varieties etc) with it! also some cut celery stalk would help to alkalize the body after eating cooked starches! personally I don't like cooked poatoes, have you tried steaming pumpkins? or maybe making a raw pumpkin soup?
