This time of year, it's so hard to decide what to get. I went a little crazy shopping for fruit this weekend. I just had to buy everything. On Saturday, I went to the fruit and veg store and today to the farmer's market.
My inventory as of this morning was:
1 head romaine
1 bunch celery
1 head parsley
6 cobs of corn
(that sounds manageable so far, but here it comes...)
2 flats nectarines (48 nectarines, need to be eaten in the next three days)
1 case lychees (13 pounds)
18 mangoes (need a while to ripen, so these are fine)
5 baskets of figs
2 honeydew-ish melons
2 other smaller orange flesh delicious mangoes of unknown variety
2 watermelons, seedless
1/2 watermelon cut up in the fridge
1/2 flat raspberries
1/2 flat strawberries
6 small baskets of figs
I guess that's all...?
I think I can manage. I don't want anything to go to waste! The only thing I regret is the strawberries, because they are just too acid for me to eat in quantity. Makes my teeth hurt and my mouth pucker. And these are the farmers' market strawberries that are already much better than the store bought ones.
I bought a bunch of mangoes, because they are so cheap these days and I find that they are one of the fruits that go down the best for me. Sweet and juicy and smooth! I feel like that is one fruit that I could island with. But I can't bear the thought of passing up any of the variety that there is these days.
At least I'm well stocked enough that there is no reason for me to stray.
That's about $150... I hope I have a little left at the end of the week, but who knows... ;)
