30 Bananas a Day!

Okay, I feel like crap right now and I'm starting to get concerned because the symptons I feel have become quite regular and I don't understand why. My thoughts are, that I am fueling/drinking water all wrong. I know it is not the fruit or any mumbo jumbo like that.

So here's the dealio, right now, I have a pounding headache, the runs, a dry, cottony mouth and a nauseous tummy. I average about 3600 cals a day, but recently I have been bumping that up to 4000+. I eat alot of bananas and dates, OJ but recently bought some melons(Canary and Santa Clause) and mangoes. I am not afraid of calories. I suck at starving myself. Okay, I drink approximately 5 liters a day. I'm an obnoxious American who doesn't use the metric system and is too mathematically challenged to learn, which means I drink about 6 glasses of water before my meals and more throughout the day usually, approcimately 1 1/2 to 2 gallons a day.

I do about 30-40 minutes of running 3-4 times a week and the other days go on 2 hr hikes. I sweat ALOT. Like dripping down my face and onto the floor and rivers of sweat running down my legs. I have been drinking only water for years now, like 3-4, and in my cooked vegan days it was normal for me to drink a gallon and sometimes more a day.

Now, I've felt like this before(on 811 only) headache, feeling spacy, backed up and just off. I felt better after I ate celery(which I already do 3-4 times a week). WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I know I am doing something wrong..drinking too much water, drinking too little, eating/drinking at the wrong times, not getting enough sodium. None of you stellar athletes(my idols) talk about feeling this way! You guys tear it up in the heat and humidity! I'm just tired of feeling this way..my daily life suffers, my running is suffering and I feel like I'm putting a band-aid on a serious issue everytime I finally feel better.

Well thanks for ,listening..if you need to know more let me know. I do appreciate help as this has me quite confused/concerned...

P.S. I am nursingabout 2 1/2 cups of coconut water and I feel slightly better, a bit more balanced

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the input! I feel a bit better thing morning, although my throat is sore and my bowel movements are still lame.
hmm, electrolyte imbalance seems the most plausible! I didnt realize it is such a precarious balance :/ I try and eat greens 3-4 times a week..mostly celery because the last time I had a salad it backed me up for about 2 days. I will try upping the celery and maybe pick up a few more coconuts today if they are still at the store.

I was feeling a little tired after a smoothie one morning. Kind of spacey too. After about an hour of feeling that way, I decided to eat some spinach. It perked me up. Maybe the minerals which could be the case with the celery. I feel there are times when our bodies need certain foods.

Hi Jess, I was having similar problems a couple months ago(apart from the headaches) but just feeling like I was doing everything right and just like I had for the past year and 10 months on this diet but I wasn't feeling great and was having heaps of sneezing fits and other horrible things. So what I did was stop and listen. I just stopped eating and exercising and tried to tune into and listen to my body. Then for a couple of days my body just said rest and I only ate lightly in response to my appetite. I started feeling better and felt like not resting anymore so I started exercising again (body weight exercises/cycling/barefoot forest running) and then let my physical activity activate my appetite. So now I'm back to eating around 3000 calories a day but it's driven by my appetite(due to the exercise) instead of me thinking I must eat this amount of calories. I know it sounds like the same thing but it's made a huge difference to me. It was also a great confirmation for me that high calories is the right path in that my body did actually want the amount of calories that I had initially decided I needed as a minimum intake. So my advice is to stop and listen and then eat according to appetite. If you're doing enough exercise you'll end up eating the high calories that this site recommends. If your appetite doesn't call for this amount then increase your physical activity till it does. Now for myself I just need to increase my activity to reach that next level of strength and fitness and my appetite and calorie intake will adjust accordingly!
As for water, one thing I found when drinking that kind of volume was that I started getting muscle cramps so I backed off a bit. So if you're getting those you're drinking too much.
Good luck!

I'm just starting out on lfrv from hfrv so I don't know from first-hand experience, but I thought I'd share something just in case it helps.
Staying hydrated is definitely a top priority, but I've heard that too much water can deplete the body of water-soluble minerals, because the minerals are continuously pushed through the body before they're absorbed.
I thought this might apply because you said you feel better after eating celery, which gives you back some sodium, and sodium is definitely a water-soluble mineral.
Maybe cut down your water intake by half? Just a thought! But I'm no expert so please get more opinions. I hope you feel better soon!

It sounds like you're sweating out all your electrolytes.
You didn't mention how much greens you get on a daily basis. I think the 811 book says 2% of your daily cal. should come from greens. I personally do better with even more than that. The darker green varieties are best, especially kale and collard greens. The vitamins and minerals found in greens are essential for proper absorption of all the rest of the vitamins and minerals you consume from fruit. Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes too, but sounds like you already know that since your drinking it! Also, if celery helps than maybe your a bit deficient in sodium, you could make sure to include more of it every day and prevent another episode of what your experiencing.
