How To Lower Your Stress And Cortisol Levels Naturally? (Or Increase In Some Cases)

Why Is Stress Bad For You?

Everyone knows that stress is bad for your health. But not many people can explain it why is it bad. Well it´s because the hormone called cortisol raises up and causes all kind of health issues such as not absorbing nutrients, dicreased apetite, lower mood and energy, insomnia, and if the stress is prolonged can cause even dicreased immunity and upcoming of new illnesses or diseases. 

Good And Bad Stress

There are 2 kinds of stresses - good stress and bad stress. Good stress is usually the natural kind of stress such as exercise and the fear of dangerous animals,heights, fear of bad weather, fear of hurting oneself etc. And then you have the unnatural bad stress which is caused by situations that are unnatural. Good examples are the stress from work and your job, the stress from not living the lifestyle that you want, the stress from not having enough money, the stress from other people who don´t support your lifestyle etc.

Stress Of Today´s Society

Most of the people in today´s society have higher cortisol levels because of the jobs and financial situations that don´t allow them to live the lifestyle they wanna live. That´s why it´s more important to talk about natural ways of dicreasing the stress and cortisol levels.

Can You Get Stressed On This Lifestyle?

Even when you are living this lifestyle 100% with sleeping, hydrating and carbing up enough with plenty of fresh air and activities that you like, it´s still not that easy to escape the stresses of today´s society. Mainly financial and lifestyle stresses. Therefore you need to do some kind of relaxation to naturally lower your stress levels.

The Best Relaxation

What I found works the best is just to lay down on nice grass when it´s warm and sunny and with minimum distractions around. First lay down on your back. Close your eyes and start breathing deeply. Enjoy the sunlight through your closed eyes. Start imagining the place you would like to be at and people you would like to be with at the moment. Maybe some group of fruitarians. Now imagine the activity you would like to do. Rock climbing, hiking, running, cycling? 

Let The World Around Disappear

Do this for however long you want and you can even fall asleep. Remember nobody has the right to disturb you. You wouldn´t disturb them if they did the same. So just relax and let everything else be. You will worry about everything else later. And you will be more capable of doing so because now your cortisol levels are lower and you can deal with upcoming issues much better. 

Winter Alternative

That´s my number one tip, of course there are other relaxation techniques, however I found this one to be the most effective and easy to remember or do every single day. In winter when it´s cold I just go somewhere to nature and stare at the sun while thinking positively.

Too Low Cortisol

The other problem can arise if somebody has no stress in his life at all, either good or bad. Most of the time this happens if a person has everything that he wants, but is very bored with his life and has pretty much no life purpose. There is no exercise, no adrenalin rush and the cortisol is too low.

When a person gets into this state, he can experience lethargy, decreased energy, decreased motivation to do anything and overally feel without life. This can be reverse much easier than having too much stress in your life. Simply because there are so many ways you can stress yourself in today´s society.

Natural Ways Of Increasing Cortisol

Of course you wanna pick up the healthy ways of more natural stress. I recommend doing some kind of adventure activity with some level of perceived risk. Good options are climbing, windsurfing, snowboarding or skiing, mountain biking, or anything that puts you out of your comfort zone.

Running or cycling races are good too. However for some people getting out of comfort zone and therefore raising the cortisol and stress levels can be as little as going for a walk somewhere where they have never been before or simply trying some new activity. So it all depends on where you are at right now and how much you need to get out of the comfort zone and scare youself little bit.

Live On Purpose

And finally living your life purpose is a big one. Because if you are doing what you want and you are doing it in purpose, you don´t have high stress because everything is going as you want and low stress because you are always interested and motivated to do what you are doing and that keeps you passionate with right amount of good stress.
