30 Bananas a Day!

How much do you spend in any given week on food alone?

i am curious because i currently live with my parents, but will soon be out on my own (Aug. 1st!! YAY!) and i want to make a budget for myself that will be adequate to feed myself with all fo the calories and nutrients that i need, but not break the bank. so how much do you spend on food a week or any given amount of time (day, half-week, fortnight, month) if that fits you better. :)

Also, if you have any tips of saving money of food, i'd LOVE to hear them!

here's some info. on ME!

1. I eat around 1500-2000 calories a day (not trying to under-eat, i just am still transitioning and get full very easily)
2. I don't buy organic usually because i cannot afford it at the moment, but if my situation shanges i will go back to buying organic, but staying on a budget.
3. does it seam do-able to try and keep my total monthly food budget under $200?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!

$185 a week, $370 every 2 weeks, and $740 a month. I think I might need to add some cooked food or I'm gonna have to keep working a lot of overtime at work.

I'm at $15US a day for 3500 kcals.

Fairtrade bananas and organic oranges by the box. Organic spinach ordered from a farmer and picked up at a farmer's fair.

Have to throw in a few more expensive and often not organic, lower calorie but extremely delicious things like sugar kiss, honeydew, tuscan melons and cantaloupes.

Everyone's circumstances are different.

if you don't eat organic and love bananas i think you can do it under 200... especially just 2000 cals a day.

-buy in bulk
-forage
-make friends with farmers
-figure out calories per $ for food items and make the ones you get the most calories from your staples.

Where are you living? If you live in a big city, search out and look for Wholesale Markets. You can get LOTS of stuff in bulk for super cheap, as in a 40lb case of bananas (sometimes even organic) for $5!! Not always, but definitely the way to go if you want to be hardcore 811 and save money.
