Freelee's challenge: 1 year of doing the whole shebang--diet, exercise, water, sleep, etc.  Stop worrying about weight gain and the momentary ups and downs of detox.  Just do it!

Meal 2: 2 strawberries, a couple bites of mango, 1 Roma tomato, 2 small heads butter head lettuce, Dirty Rice (black beans, white rice, mushrooms, beet greens, green onions, celery, Herdez salsa)

Meal 4: Black beans, white rice, Herdez salsa

11:00-8:00  Sleep was interrupted sometime in the early morning by an experience that reminded me of a hemorrhoids commercial--itching, burning, pain.  Was able to fall back asleep eventually and it had mostly subsided once I woke up.

2 hour nap in the afternoon, which messed with my sleep for the next night

Today's Pleasures

An awesome workout and that post-workout happiness

Getting 3 cases of replacement mangos 

Awesome butter lettuce from the farmer's market

Watching my little guy interact with lots of people in stores--he is so funny and friendly and curious


White coating on my tongue upon awakening

Dark puffy under-eye circles in the morning 

Some gas 

An enormous, corn-filled bowel movement (felt much better after that)

Increased redness and bumpiness on forehead, nose and chin 

Sore raw spot on the inside of my lower lip

Mild depression

Stress level

Moderate... kinda crabby and down today.

Daily Thoughts

Seems like a downward spiral with the salty cooked food.  I don't enjoy the symptoms they give me.  Had some cravings during my shopping trip this morning.  I haven't had those in awhile.  I was thinking about going to a Chinese buffet and chowing down on a bunch of fried salty food.  I did not, but it was unsettling.  I realize that my calorie consumption has been crawling downward lately.  Also, today I physically measured out my beans and rice.  Seems like I may have been over-estimating some of my portions (specifically the cooked foods) recently, so the calorie counts may have been slightly above what I actually consumed.

I bought only conventional food today, no organics (other than the Farmer's Market lettuce and spinach) so that I could try to get more food within my budget.  Hopefully my dates will get here this week, too!  I truly am grateful for the abundance I have and the prices available and I will try to focus on that rather than wishing I was in Hawaii or Thailand.  :)

I am going to do updated pictures and a summary post when I hit 60 days soon.  Does anybody have any questions that they would like me to answer?  I have a couple from Grape Nut and February Girl, thanks!

Also, I don't have anybody confirmed for my greens party yet.  If you are able to come, I'd LOVE to see you!

Thanks, you guys!  Means a lot to me.  Lala, I do have some baked and sweet potatoes and I will use those when I have to instead. Goddess of Green, I absolutely love Jourdans but I only order there maybe once or twice a year because I simply cannot afford it.  I struggle to afford enough bananas and oranges and dates.  I am very sad to be missing sapodilla season right now, as they are one of my all-time favorite fruits.  Mama O, I will try that recipe for my family who eats cooked food.  I happen to have a bunch of organic no-salt tomato paste right now.  Rice really is hard on my system and I am going to move away from it, but if I find myself needing to, then I will for sure try this.  Janna, I fought through yesterday and felt MUCH better!  Feb Girl, You're my heart.  Thanks for the recipe.

K, I'll chime in with a recipe too:)  Boil potatoes in vegetable broth and a ton of chopped parsely. Blend into a creamy potatoe soup and season as you wish:)

P.S. I'm depressed too:(  Hang in there!  Brighter days are coming!!!!

Hey Greenmama!  I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences...I look forward to your blog posts every day. :)

Also, wanted to share a way that my husband and I eat rice without using salt.  We buy organic tomato paste (with no salt) and cook it with celery, a chopped tomato, a bit of onion, chili powder, and the rice.  It all cooks together and makes a delicious spanish rice that tastes salty but has no salt added.  We add this to our evening salads and our dressing is a fresh salsa that we make in our blender (tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lemon juice).  Sometimes we make a mango salsa instead (mangoes, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, garlic {I know you don't eat garlic--would be just as tasty without!}, jalapeno).  Anyway, then we pile the salt-free spanish rice on our lettuce and top with our fresh salsa, and it's delicious, high-carb, and salty-tasting without having any salt.  And if you wanted, you could probably just cook the beans (if they're canned) with the rice.

I don't have problems when I eat beans/rice, but I am trying to cut it. However, I have noticed a big difference in the last two weeks minimizing salt containing products. Have you considered sticking to plain rice/roasted veggies/sweet potatoes when you run out of fruit? Just because it seems those other foods really seem to negatively effect you. Take care GM!
