30 Bananas a Day!

So I am new to being a Raw/vegan. I am even newer to the 80-10-10. I am not by any means near to being the level I dream to be. Transitioning from a SAD diet to eating as much Raw food daily as possible can be very hard.It makes it even harder that I come from an area that is uneducated about Raw/Veganism. I come from a town with 1 health food store that is good but not really that great, and only very few places to buy Organically. At this time in my life (and I am sure I am not the only one) it is hard to afford to buy the few/pricey organic produce at our local wal-mart and hannaford (they actually have more produce then our health food store.) I am always one to say that "if you want to be healthy spend the extra money for the foods your body needs." However when me and my boyfriend are trying to pay bills, get a car, and save to move out of state our money for food can be limited which thus causes the amount of produce we purchase to be limited. We are both trying the 80-10-10 the best we can but if he needs 3,000 calories and I need 2,500 calories a day how do we go about that? We can't, and that's why we buy less thus making us not eat enough, which in turn makes us fall of the band wagon we are so wanting to be a part of.Anyone out there who has been in the same boat and figured a way out?

Peace and Love

How much can you spend per week? If I'm eating mostly bananas, I spend about $70 each week (for organic) along with some organic greens or the occasional watermelon. :p
When I'm not trying to budget, I spend around $100 a week buying whatever I want. :)

Another thing that you can do is order dates by the bulk online. And you could get those organic if you want-and they provide a lot of calories. The only thing i would recommend to try to get organic would be the greens! Those have a lot of pesticides on them

Chanda gave really good advice- I think too that if you cant afford all organic food, I personally can't, try to do it with conventional food and try to avoid the stuff that contains the most pesticides (celery, tomatoes etc) bananas and mangoes have the least pesticide on them. Ask you local grocery store, they can almost always sell you bulk if you ask to speak to the manager. You will still get amazing benefits even if you cant afford organic food! That you should not worry about. I understand your frustration though-It took me a while to figure it out myself.

I don't want it to be impossible that's my problem. I want to learn how to be able to eat the way I want in a place that offers hardly anything. I'm looking for some pointers from others who have been in the same boat.

You are pretty darn certain that it is impossible right now.  You gave yourself your own answer.  Stop feeling guilty and get on with your life the best you can.

hmm the bananas from walmart I was told that they sell them by weight and I wouldnt be able to buy them in bulk haha. But no my rant was pretty much me being frustrated with my town and nearby towns it makes it so hard trying to live this way. I know what to do but its a huge challenge in an area so uneducated. We have 3 mcdonalds 1 healthfood store and thats pretty much it. its a litle screwy

Don't beat yourself up if you can't afford organic produce. I can't afford it, either. We all do the best we can do. One thing I did do that helped me with the cost of produce is I went and got a Costco card. Now I can buy bulk produce at Costco, like dates and champagne mangoes. I also watch for what's on sale at the stores. You can get a case of Walmart bananas for 20.80, that's 40 lbs of nanners for 20 bucks. Good deal, I say! What I can't eat before it gets overly ripe, I peel and put in the freezer for smoothies. Just do the best you can. And if I'm in a pinch, I'll eat a few baked potatoes or rice. Although I prefer the potatoes to the rice. I just tried plain white rice today and it was not as tasty as a plain baked potato.
