30 Bananas a Day!

So, i'm pretty new here and have been scouring the site pretty often for the past few days. i have come to one the conclusion: so many of you have a huge obsession with DURIAN!

i had only the slightest idea of what durian was before this site and that was from Andrew Zimmern's biased taste-test of annie phyo's durian smoothie. so anyhow, i figured, like all of his other opinions on raw food, he was biased and not open-minded. so i Googled nutrition facts on durian, in my attempt to figure out what the hype was all about. i still have never tried durian and would like to. so for those of you reading this...
1. what do you think of durian?
2. how do you eat it?
3. where can i get it in chicago?

and any other tips that you have would be a fantastic help!

have a spectacular day!

I've been on a real Durian tear lately. I've had 3 whole durians so far this week. The first time I tried it, I didn't like it. I decided to try it again a second time and started to develop a taste for it. Now I crave it all the time. I even had a durian for dinner tonight. You can search vids on YouTube that will show you how to open one up. What I do is take a sharp knife and cut a small slit to open it up a little bit. Then I use my fingers to pry it open the rest of the way. It's really easy once you get the hang of it. I don't know where you can get durians in the city but I live in Des Plaines and there's an asian market near me that sells them. I would suggest checking asian markets nearest to you or Chinatown. Good luck.

Oh durian.

I loved Durian from the first moment I tasted it. It's an aquired taste, but LFRVs especially get hooked on the flavour.
In my opinion, the taste is a cross between banana, pineapple, dates. mango, and green onion. Haha. I know how weird that sounds, but trust me, it's heaven! The texture is custard like.
Here on Vancouver Island we buy them at the Canadian Superstore.
Can't help you with Chicago, but if you can get your hands on some durian, your life will never be the same!

1. Hated it the first time, loved it the second.
2. Cracked durian open and scooped out and edible portion
3. No idea... Chinatown or Asian markets would be my guess.
