Sally was very matter of fact, we kill animals because we need them to survive, but what if we don't? Everyone survives ok here! I know the vegan diet can be done wrong resulting in failure to thrive and rotten teeth in children. But what if we did it right? What would that look like? No more needless suffering and death, because as Sally admitted factory farming is atrocious. Yet we need them to keep up with demand, so everyone would need to eat less meat if there were only organic farms anyway.
So I would need to raise animals on an organic farm and then slaughter them, because I wouldn't get other people to my dirty work. It occurred to me that humans have lost touch with the earth, nature and what is sacred, life. If I was on a farm and a cow was in a field and someone put a knife to a cow's throat, I would push them away and stand in front of the cow, even if it meant I was harmed. Because life is so precious and I would want that cow to live. I don't know what I would do if stranded somewhere and there was no other food around, but if there is why should I live and they die, they should be able to breathe fresh air, eat to their hearts desire, live with their companions etc. Why don't people think about these kind of things when they eat meat? If any of you listened what did you think?
