30 Bananas a Day!

Today, my fruit is apples. I have lots and lots that I get for free at work.
OH-just got a promotion at the day job, I'm out of the kitchen and now managing a deli. The 30% pay increase was rad, I like being able to provide nice things and the best food ever to myself.

The thyroid supplement program I put myself on is really helping everything! Energy, movement, digestive fire, sleep pattern, appetite, mental clarity. All by just taking 1.5 mg of iodine from kelp per day, and 1000mg L-tyrosine (an amino acid). Normally, iodine thyroid supplements are at least 12 mg, so I'm trying to slowly build to maybe 3-4 mg per day.

Alright, it's 5pm and I haven't eaten since breakfast, so I'm off to have more apples, plus some zucchini and greens!

Again, anyone else who would like to challenge themselves to a goal, commitment, or habit for 100 days, ending the first of the new year, please let me know so we can stick with them together!

Kait, all of us come to 811 from a bad place, yet all do well IF it is done properly. How do you know that the kelp, for instance, won't just palliate your symptoms while at the same time create other problems?

Definitely going with you on this. This whole summer was awful when it came to my health, as a cyclist, I wouldn't plan things well and instead of eating bananas and dates, i'd be munching on clif bars for 6-8 hour long rides. With fall/winter comes the end of my season, and I'll be inside most of the time. Very glad i'm joining you!

Maltron, I used a basal temp test, but have had most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism since I was a teenager (was on TONS of various psychotropics, prescription amphetamines for years, things that are now linked to later thyroid dysfunction, plus had endometriosis and celiac disease/leaky gut, not too sure if the latter two are related), also have experienced a mysterious calorie gap since my teens, despite having an extremely active lifestyle, I can stay within a normal range eating 900 kC a day.
Insurance hadn't kicked in yet at the new day job, so there was no way I'd shell out the money for tests that have proven to be far less conclusive than just taking into account medical history, symtom history, and basal temp.
For the kelp, I'm taking it in vegan capsules, it's standardized to contain a specific amount of iodine and almost no sodium. The only symptoms I've read about people contracting from an excess iodine intake is hyperthyroidism, which I obviously do not have;-), so I figure there is nothing to lose!
Another problem with dietary iodine is that some people lack the intrinsic factors to absorb it, and without it, we have no way of creating T3 or T4.
It's been two weeks and lots of researching on kelp-based iodine and L-tyrosine.

Sure, natural hygiene is a great idea, but not all of us come from a place where our bodies are able to get everything from food alone, and function normally and perfectly by simply cutting out certain foods.

Very interesting Kate, about the iodine. Have you been diagnosed with any thyroid problems or have you just decided you need the iodine? Glad it is helping. What kind of symptoms have you had? What type iodine supplement? Do you just eat the kelp? What difference have you noticed? How long have you been doing it? Thanks.
