30 Bananas a Day!

Yikes, I got my blood drawn today and am a bit unhappy with the results.  I was all raw for three weeks and have been high carb, low fat raw until 4 for the past five weeks.  So all in all I have been doing this for about two months.

Typically, on a vegetarian, mostly vegan, high raw diet over the past several years I have had ideal lipids, triglycerides, and inflammatory markers.  I am relatively thin.

I had my blood drawn and test results back today.  My cholesterol is still ok, LDL is in the ideal range (78) and HDL has dropped to 44.  What really has me concerned is that my triglycerides rose to 171 (under 150 is recommended), my hsCRP (inflammatory marker) has doubled from my regular value and I tested in the moderately high range for insulin resistance.

I average between 2500 to 4000 calories per day and am not particularly active currently.

A typical weeks menu for me is similar to the following:

Water: 3-5L (lots!)

Breakfast: green smoothie with a head of romaine and frozen fruit, sometimes additional greens (~750-1000 calories)

or a large fruit monomeal (~750-1000 calories), or 12 banana smoothie with vanilla

Lunch: datorade with 20 dates (over 1000 calories)

or a large fruit monomeal

Snack: fruit or juice, on occasion roasted chickpeas

Dinner: (~1000-1500 calories) Potatoes and mixed steamed veggies, no salt, sometimes with low sodium fat-free ketchup (organic)

or brown rice pasta or corn pasta with organic low sodium fat-free tomato sauce

or veggie sushi with avocado and raw veggies

or kale salad with tahini and hemp seeds and tomatoes

a couple of times a week flax seeds, Brazil nuts, chia seeds, or olives (about a Tbsp)

I have also done a couple of mini banana islands for 2-3 days.

Help! What am I doing wrong?  Will this resolve itself or is there something to which I need to pay more attention?  I plan to go all raw again at the beginning of April and stay mostly raw throughout the summer at least.

Did you fast for at least 12 hours before your test?  If you ate before your blood was drawn, triglycerides, cholesterol and many other markers will be off.

I don't know sorry. I think most people on here would put the inflammation down to detox - ie. some temporary healing process now that you've gone raw.

Thank you for the response.  Do you know if increased raw helps with this?  Anything about the inflammation?

Raised trigs seems to be pretty common in people who are new to 80-10-10. It's a consequence of the increased fructose. The long-termers who've posted their blood results have acceptable trigs though. All you can do is keep at it and retest in a few months.

I'm interested in the answer too,my tris were 1.9 in a 0.1-2.0 normal range. I've actually gone more McDougal style of eating in the hope of getting it down, but i suppose everyone is different. I love my fruit but have had to compromise a bit in the hope of solving it. Sorry i can't be more help,I'm sure someone will chime in about fruit and high triglycerides.

Now you can't be vegan 'cause... Mineral levels in plants are depleted. LifeRegenerator lacks sense
