30 Bananas a Day!

All these "omg calories" "omg weight gain" "omg hypothetical situations" discussions are HORRIBLE. just horrible.

I went HCRV because I truly believed that it would heal my body from the damage I did to it, and the damage that the early years of eating SAD and not being all too active did.  I believe that HCRV is not only the healthiest way for people to live, but that it is the kindest to the planet.  I understand the fear of gaining weight, but this is supposed to be a forum that promotes HEALTH of body, mind, and spirit- not pleasing aesthetics.  I take it personally when people say this is a "diet that isn't working" because they're misunderstanding completely what it is.  It's a lifestyle based on compassion and awareness, from which you will happen to reap countless benefits- It is not just a band-aid for your belly.

One of the things that attracted me to 30BAD was the LACK of people complaining about every little dip and curve, every 2lb/1kg difference in their weight, etc.  I find it alienating when every discussion is someone freaking out over a MINOR weight gain, or asking a hypothetical question for the sake of proving a moot point.  It's juvenile.  I know I haven't been a member long, but in the short time I have been here it seems like the site has been overrun by fad-dieters and people who understand NOTHING about nutrition, and aren't willing to listen to those with years of solid experience.  Jeepers.  I would really like to see more worthwhile discussions from the centered&balanced members of 30BAD.  I will start one myself later.  Cheers, truly fruity people!

Ps- what ever happened to "Our forum does not tolerate encouragement of anything contrary to HCRV?"  I read- Don't promote restriction or aggressively question the calorie guidelines.  If you disagree so strongly, there are other online raw forums you can join where people's views are in agreement with yours!

Hey Dreamer- Right on!  No need to apologize for a lengthy comment, I love it!  Very well said.

Brittany- Again, right on!  The overwhelming vibe I get from the posts I'm referring to is that these people are more concerned with waking up 4lbs lighter tomorrow, not with achieving long-term health and healing their bodies.

Rayla- I'm glad the negative posts aren't turning you off!  That's the attitude I have- No, I'm not going to get scared off, but like I said it's alienating, and yes, frustrating.  Francesca left a comment on my page before where she said, "Let's litter the site with positive posts!"

That's what I really want to do- bring back the positive attitude!  Yes, I vented my frustrations.  Sometimes you gotta get it out.  But I don't feel that my post was derogatory or degrading, just honest.  Hope that gets across.  I don't hold anything against anyone who is struggling with an ED.  But as Francesca said before, it's frustrating as someone who recovered from an ED and (as everyone recovering from an ED unfortunately HAS to do) put in a lot of hard work and yes, gained unwanted weight initially, to get to the healthy and positive place I'm in now, to have to read posts by people who are trying to "get around" the hard aspects of recovery.  I understand not wanting to gain weight.  I understand being scared and a little stubborn.  I was all these things and more I was miserable, but one has to realize that ultimately an eating disorder, whatever the reasons for it are, is something you do to yourself and have to overcome by yourself.  I want to support people who need support.  I want to offer my experiences, advice, anything- But the person on the receiving end has to want to listen (and no, I'm not expecting everyone's experience to be THE SAME as mine but as people with EDs know, there are a lot of common factors). Until they let go of the restrictive mindset, all they are doing is creating more problems for themselves and it can affect the energy of the whole community.

I probably seem like a bitch.  I swear, I'm not.  I'm like super friendly.  I'm also super realistic.  I also feel that sometimes, tough love and hard truths sans sugar-coating is necessary.

Yes, it's very important to take responsibility and do "one's reading." Maybe to become a member we should have reading assignments. Get informed! 80/10/10 should be the basic textbook for everyone. I feel that many people who are "transitioning" into this diet become confused, when this book could clarify things for them.

I feel there has been a recent influx of newbies who have NOT ready The 80/10/10 Diet by Douglas Graham and have just been watching some youtube videos on weight loss success on the diet and don't give a SH*T about animals or the planet or their health. It is annoying me too. Seriously! Read the book. Get your head right! GRrr!

I agree with this post. I am new to this lifestyle too. I tried just being raw vegan, but as a fruit lover I feel this is the best route for me. I am obese and need to lose lots of weight, but I'm not here to complain about that. I'm here to give and receive support from others. I understand people's fears though...no doubt about it. It's just not the most supporting environment to make this a weight loss forum or like you said, a place for fad dieters.

I agree. I've been disappointed to find so many "anti-high carb" people/posts here. I was hoping for support... not for people ranting about how too much sugar makes you sick. WTF?? I'm a newbie and even though their attempts to induce fear doesn't work on me I do find it frustrating when so many posts are about fear and freaking out. I'd really rather see fewer posts that actually are supportive of this lifestyle rather than all the freaking. *sigh*

I just wish that more people could have faith and be patient. I know, easier said than done. A year after finding raw I was in a worse position than when I started due to freaking out over every change that happened and "giving up" countless times. I wanted to do everything perfect the first time around and be thin instantly. I did some big soul searching, and two years later ive lost 35 pounds and am healing health problems. I still have more weight to lose, but I've grown at peace about it. Things will happen in due time, and meanwhile I'm learning so much about myself! Keep the faith. This isn't a one-and-done change, it's a long process. The body needs time to heal. If I hadn't stopped restricting calories, I probably wouldn't have lost all this weight long term.

I just want to let you know that the reason some find it frustrating is not because it's "annoying" to see those discussions on the page. Of course no one is forced to read threads and shouldn't complain based on what they find annoying. That would be selfish and stupid. The reason is because people don't get that this weight gain period is a common occurrence for some women, especially those with dieting or eating disorder backgrounds, and that it will be over at some point if you just ride it out. So then these people give it up and fall off the wagon and say this lifestyle didn't work because they gained 4 or 9 lbs (while their bodies are trying to do their thing; our bodies have their own agendas, remember) or go back to their binge eating or calorie restriction or whatever else they did before. And obviously that sucks, because if people would have been perfectly satisfied with their former lifestyles, they would not have tried to start living this one. We just want people to be happy and stay on this so-called diet long enough to reap the benefits of it and see that it was WORTH IT all along. :) That's all. Sorry that was very long.
