30 Bananas a Day!


I'm running my very first race this Saturday, and it will be as a fruitarian (principally fueled by the amazing bananas of the canary islands).

I'm seeking advices for the race.

I have a GPS + CF watch to help me, but I don't really know how fast or at what cardiac frequency I should run.

I know durianrider advice not to eat for 3+ hours before the event. Any other advice is welcome :-)

Stay calm during the start of the race and go at a pace you are comfortable with. Make sure you are hydrated and used to bathroom prior to the start.

I didn't gave a lot of details because I didn't run much lately. But I know I think I can be pretty fast for such a short distance. I think of running between 4 and 4,5 min/km and about 170-175 bpm but I don't really know if I can do better than that.

The race will be at 16h45 (4:45 PM).

I will post a report and if I run fast enough, I plan to buy an OrganicAthlete shirt for the next event :)

Plenty of juicy carbs the days before, and assuming your race is in the morn, just start you day with a quart of water (a good general practice anyway).  No need to eat anything, as you should be properly fueled from the prior couple days.  If you must have something, just keep it to a single piece of fruit or so.  

Without knowing your skill level or how you've acclimated to this distance, we can't give pacing advice.  

Just be safe, listen to your body, push yourself where appropriate, don't be afraid to slow or even walk if necessary.  Above all, enjoy the experience!  

BTW, we expect a post-race report :)
