30 Bananas a Day!

2nd day going vegan! Some doubts that I have, and my sister talks to me.

So hey guys.  I have just been on something of an emotional roller coaster.  More specifically the part of the roller coaster that goes straight down.  You see, my sister, who is a pharmacist, has just called and talked to me on the phone.  She has placed doubts in my mind, and I am not too sure about much of anything that I want to do.  My sister, to my surprise, accepted the fact that i am going vegan with an open mind, but she also pointed out that I am only 14 and that I am still growing.  She explained to me how I can't get everything that I possibly need to grow and develope if i start on a vegan diet, and told me that I should wait until I am older and done growing to go vegan.  She did say, though, that if I am going vegan i should call my doctor and ask her what kinds of supplements I should be on and stuff to make sure that I am growing properly and that it doesn't affect me latter in life.

i have never told anyone the main reason that I found out about going vegan, but truthfully, I just want to be thin and pretty.  I have always been bigger, and I have also always wanted to be thin.  I have tried different diets before and stuff, but i just couldn't eat the extremely small portions of food that the diet suggested.  i just love eating so much.  Then I stumbled upon Freelee's channel, and I thought that I had finally found the thing that would make me thin and pretty.  But now, i am not sure if I can go vegan or not.  I am just so worried, downhearted, and confused.  So yeah.  Talk to you guys tomorrow.

if it's not natural, probably not meant to do it. You wouldn't want to kill a cow, you certainly couldn't kill a cow, you wouldn't want to eat a cow (raw), you wouldn't drink their breast milk. Nature did not intend you to do any of these horrible things, so be resolute with your new VEGAN ethics. Do you salivate when you see a chicken or pig? Does your sister salivate when she sees a bunny or cute chick? Or does she think they are cute? The lion here, who is a 'carnivore' salivates when he sees living animals, he wants to kill them, he can kill them, and he would love to eat bunny's and chicks raw. I labour the point, I get a little carried away. But I am sure you get my point. Take your sis to a field full of cows or pigs, then tell her to go and catch, kill, then eat one raw - to prove to you she is meant to eat them, to prove she is an omnivore. You can prove you are a frugivore/herbivore by going to an apple tree and picking an apple. Seriously, test her. Until she does this, refuse to allow to speak about this. She doesn't stand by her own words.

Remember, being vegan has nothing to do with 'looks'. Being vegan is an entirely 'selfless act', and has nothing to do with 'self'. VEGAN is to do with being compassionate towards the suffering of animals, nothing to do with 'diet' or being thin.

I second what Brian James says. Ask your sis to spell it out, then you can consult us on this forum. Ask her how do Elephants, Rhino's, Bulls, Deer, Springbox etc etc.. the worlds largest.. fastest...  strongest animals grow? What are they missing? How many chickens does an elephant need to eat? How many cows does a Rhino need to eat to get these essential growing nutrients which can't be found in whole, natural PLANTS?

Your sis needs some basic nutrition education. this stuff really is quite basic.

Ask your sister what specific nutrients are missing, for a growing adolescent on a vegan diet and I'll list you 10 fruits or veggies that are high in whatever that nutrient is.

Are you using cronometer to track your intake?  That will show you objectively if you are meeting all your nutritional needs.  In addition get some sun everyday you can for vit. D and get your B12 levels checked, 40% of the U.S. population is B12 deficient.

"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes."  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19562864

There is nothing you can find on a standard diet that can't be found in a raw vegan diet.
