I volunteer at a homeless shelter for young adults. Last shift, I had kitchen duty. A guy came up and asked if we had anything vegan, and I got really excited and talked to him for a while about the diet. Nothing that was out was vegan, but we found some old couscous in the back for him. He said he wants to be an artist and he thinks that going vegan will give him the clarity of mind and spirit to produce better work.
Meeting him has made me rethink some things. Namely, if I was homeless would I have the commitment to stick to being vegan? I'm sure it must be incredibly hard, but he's been doing it for a year and looks great. It makes me realize how stupid some of my excuses have been.
Also, I think someone needs to start a non-profit that donates HEALTHY options to soup kitchens and shelters. I wonder if it would help some people get off the streets just due to better health and functioning.
So what is YOUR reason for not sticking to your diet?
