New to HCLF, advice?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the HCLF community and looking for some tips on starting off and what to expect.
Some diet history: I've been a vegetarian for the past 3 years, almost vegan for most of that time. Recently I've consciously been trying to go vegan (last year or so), it's been challenging because as a student I don't actually shop for myself and km self conscious about mentioning my dietary preferences. Probably the only non vegan thing I've eaten with any regularity for…

all in moderation is not what Ancient Greeks said..

So as an argument for eating animal products people keep saying you should eat "everything in moderation". This phrase comes from Ancient Greece. However, in Ancient Greece they weren't saying exactly this. They were saying, "everything that is perfect, in moderation". Animal products, alcohol etc are far from perfect.. Modern Greeks also keep mistranslating the saying and use it as an argument against veganism. Just saying in case you'd like to argue back!

How To Choose Healing, Even When It Is Hard And Scary

How To Choose Wellness, When It Is Hard And Scary

Today I have an extra special treat for you.

I recently sat down with my good friend (and former roomie) Andrew Perlot to talk about his healing journey.

Andrew came from a background of obesity, depression, low immunity and ulcerative colitis.

When he was diagnosed with his colitis, his doctor told him that it would never be cured, and that he would need to learn how to live with and manage it for the rest of his…

Why Raw Till 4?

Coming from a background of calorie-restricting and yo-yo dieting, I have been interested in starting the Raw Till 4 lifestyle for a while.

On April 1st I decided to go vegan, inspired by the book Skinny Bitch. It went really well for the first 9 days. Since then I have still been following a vegan diet, but the alcohol and refined sugar and junk food started to sneak back in. Although I lost 5 lbs in a week, I assumed that this vegan diet was too restrictive to be sustainable. So, I…

My First Date-orade...

I woke up this morning feeling pretty off. I've been fighting seasonal allergies hard for the last week and I'm scared it's turning into an ear infection or sinus infection. Nasty stuff. I've been working on keeping hydrated. The doctor said to keep drinking more water... Which is basically the only thing I drink. I have had a cup of caffeine free tea for my throat.

So for this morning I decided I needed something easy, smooth, cold... So I kind of made up my own weird version of the…

Menstrual cycle

Hello everyone. I became a HCLF vegan in November 2014. It was the best thing that I have done to myself. Before then, I have a history of severe eating disorder (bulimia + anorexia + BED) since 2002. I thought I had food addiction - hence joined a 12 step program in 2010 which promoted mostly non-vegan foods as well as weighing and measuring of every food. Additionally, we had to abstain from all forms of sugar, wheat, and flour.

Needless to say that I had all kinds of health issues…

Lush - FRESH Handmade Cosmetics

So I ordered some Lush products online and thought I would share my thoughts on the company/products.

Lush is an amazing company. They believe in making their products from fresh organic fruits and veggies. They do not support animal cruelty in any way and most of their products are vegan!

I purchased 4 items. I have tried them all and LOVE them!

1. Herbalism - A face and body wash made mostly out of ground almonds.  The smell and…

Day 2 on RT4 - Bye-Bye Zits

Even as a vegan, I admit it's a struggle transitioning from cooked savory food to raw fruit. I'm not fond of sweets either.

That said, I had a couple of skin breakouts last Saturday.  I just started feasting on bananas yesterday and by today I noticed that my skin is glowing, and my zits have completely disappeared!

Today I had more bananas and apple mangoes for my mono-meals.

Apple mangoes are round mangoes with a thick medium-green skin that blushes red when ripe, and…

For those traveling to Thailand

If you are traveling to Thailand this button might be useful. if means 'eat vegan/vegetarian' in Thai. So by wearing this button on your shirt you are helping to promote veganism.

It could be useful too. Thai is a horribly difficult language to speak as it is tonal and each word has 5 tones. If you don't get the right tone, Thai people wont have a clue what you are…

A healthy body weight is a byproduct of a healthy lifestyle.

Day 1

Today was Day One of my new Raw Till 4 lifestyle.

My alarm was set at 6:00 am for me to start my homeschool schedule (I wake up extra early to have an hour of free time before I begin) but I overslept until 7:50, having stayed up late working.

So not a great start to the day but I was up, dressed and ready to work by 8:30.

I was really excited to make my breakfast.  We just got a brand new blender with lots of accessories and lots of settings so that's awesome.  I…

Been a Good Day

Woke up early, had a good breakfast (grapes, oranges and the last slice of cheremoya from last night). Went for a quick run before hopping on the bike n heading off for the Native Seed Farm. Worked my way up the winding Farm road, past the strawberry fields n Avocado trees, through the big dust clouds that the Santa Ana winds blew up off the ground, down to the little 8 acre piece where I would spend the next four hours weeding and harvesting seeds. Learned how to use a scyth, met a guy…

No, Your Low Vibration Did Not Cause That

No, Your Vibration is Not Too Low, You Didn't Cause That

Ever heard someone tell you that your negative thoughts are the reason bad things happen to you?

That your 'low vibration' is the reason you got sick?

That people are mean to you because of your energetic state?

Maybe you tell yourself these things? When life does not go how you…

Possibly the most awesome post on YouTube ever.

How I got to this guy's channel from Torque Converters, I'll never know, but I actually sat and just LISTENED to this man. I was floored by how wise this guy is. Sure, some of his facts don't really make any sense: (geography and evolution... you'll know when you hear them,) and I don't know about his other videos, but this dude knows what's up when it comes to living right, respecting each other as equals and caring for the world. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean. …

Day 2

Today was Day 2 of Raw Till 4.

I woke up at 6:00 am, no sleeping in this time.

I felt pretty energetic.

After two hours of just relaxing and starting on my work, I made breakfast.

This time, I conjured up an ‘Apple Pie in A Glass’ smoothie.  I peeled and chopped two ripe…
