2 years ago my BMI was close to obese (and I mean 0.1 away) and I was told that my blood sugar was quite high, not quite diabetic but fast approaching the 'pre diabetes stage' which was alarming as I have a family history of diabetes and know full well the difficulties it entails.

Following that I started to diet. Conventional dieting involving all the usual stories-eggs, protein etc plus exercise. It worked. But it was very much crash and burn. 1 week intense restrictive diet, 1 month almost binge eating-feeling like crap-restricting etc. And even though I was losing weight-my weight was yo-yoing, and inside I felt like crap. Tired, lethargic, constipated (sorry if TMI).

So I had a friend who was a vegan and playing with the idea of raw veganism. I went on google, found banana girl videos, and was encouraged to give it a try. At first I didn't know how to make decent raw vegan food and was apathetic to eating…which meant I was eating little and feeling delirious as a result. And then came eating too much nuts and almonds, which didn't make me feel very bad but definitely did not help me lose weight.

Over the course of a month,I get a feel for what food I liked the taste of, and became better at making raw vegan dishes (now I actually look forward to eating them!). The result on my body was remarkable. My skin-clear, my energy levels high, my mood-happy/stable (previously quite up/down), my weight-very rapid reduction-
My health-I can't remember the last time I was sick..(previously always feeling sick/frequent coughs/infections)
my sleep-more restful (previously waking up tired)

Generally, such an amazing turn around for me. And this is while still not being 100% raw vegan. I've reached the stage where I know this is the right and healthy thing for my body. And it's just absurd that I am not doing it all the time. But one thing I found hard was not having any support (I have been doing this sort of on the DL). For example while I make raw vegan food for myself at home, I feel some social pressure to have vegetarian when out with friends etc.

So, long story short. I am hoping to meet like minded people who can share their experiences/advice with me, if they have gone through similar things. Also have a LOT Of questions still which I would like some answers to and I figure this is the place.

movies: too many to list-mostly european cinema.

Passtimes: long walks, cinema, concerts/shows, good conversations with good people, dancing like nobodies watching :p

Does this mean I can post my questions here?

1. What is your take on sparkling water?

2. How do you manage social situation-eg going to restaurants with friends? I'm at uni and my friends just think this sort of think is bonkers, and none of the restaurants local to us really cater for a raw vegan diet.

3. How can I deal with family situations? Like parents telling you 'when I heard you visiting I made you your favourite …[insert something the previous me would like]'

4. Hummus-is it raw?

5. Are dates/figs bad?

6. And quite important actually: How does this diet effect sugar level. I know DR puts his sugar results up on videos etc. But does he have a family history of diabetes (because I do..and well my situation could be different).
