When I was little my body was very sensitive to fatty, salty foods, and every time I would eat something high in fat- I would throw up. That went away when I was about 12. Now that I am (trying to…Continue

Stress

Stress

They tell us, stress is deadly. We always dismiss the notion, because we all can say we have stress in our lives, and hey, we are not dead yet, and feel normal, as usual.

But stress is devastating, and it doesn't even take years to notice it's effects.

I've been so stressed out in the past few months. I feel like all the factors by themselves are not that big of a deal, but they really add up. Applying to college, taking AP classes, after school activities and…

good news/bad news

I think I had gotten my mother to finally see why this lifestyle is actually a good choice. I have not spoken to her directly about it recently, but I feel like her attitude has changed and she is giving me a lot less resistance. I feel as, if I put in some work, I could actually get this lifestyle to work as my mom is no longer an obstacle.

A part of me wishes I had never known about this diet. I wish I was content with being just vegan, but I know how much better my body feels on…

A new beginning? (again, haha)

Okay so I am done with grains of all sorts and legumes.

That leaves me with fruits, vegetables/greens, juice, occasional avocado, potatoes and sweet potatoes.

I have been sleeping a lot in the past few days, 10-11 hours a day, but I do feel less sick now as a result. I still feel like I need all the sleep I can get so I will try and get at least 8 hours a night if not more.

I am feeling better, went out and bought 16 pounds of oranges, 8 pounds of bananas or so, 2…

want something like that less. I'd much rather prefer to be involved in bioinformatics as a scientist and teaching at university level. One of my favorite teachers in high school once said, "Choose the career in which when you retire, you can feel like you haven't worked a single day." The one where you actually would like to do whether or not it's for money, because most of us find little motivation behind materialism at its core. Something you would want to even VOLUNTEER in and not care if you're getting paid, (but actually get paid, as if you didn't really expect it. Just.. my two cents on this.

"How did your family accept you going hcrv? Do your friends find your diet odd?"

As I transitioned into 811.. which took about two weeks, my parents took a while to notice what I've been doing.. since we don't really eat together (not very family oriented). Most in my high school didn't know about it. Nor do my friends in college. I really just tell them I don't eat animal products and have mostly fruit for my performance (leafy greens as the remainder). Many of the people I train with have been influenced by this, others just ignore and continue what they're doing. Pushing information down people's throats isn't a way for them to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Focusing on being compassionate, considerate, and respectful person and of others' food choices on the outside (regardless what they eat) can go great lengths. But yes, they do find it different, but are accepting and respectful of it.

Hello Tanya! My apologies for the late response on the questions you had on my blog post.

"Do you think once your course work gets even heavier (like junior/senior year) you
would be able to keep it up?"

I have 3-4 hours of completely free time that I use to volunteer, participate in the government on the university, and help out my swim coach. Guess that time will go down given the situation of a heavier courseload. Regardless, I do not really study for my classes during the curriculum, more of just review. Typically I just read on my own ahead of the class before the semester starts (researching the subject online, listening to online college lectures, buying the textbook beforehand). Last Fall semster I ended up with an A in bio1a+lab, math1a, eng r1a, and a B in o chem.

"How do you keep your smoothies from going bad over night? Mine turn brown even in the fridge"

The "brown" is simply caused by antioxidant rich (fruit/veg) being affected by oxidation. What I do to minimize this effect.. PULSE my smoothies in a slow rhythm. Avoiding the "vortex" inside the blender as much as possible, so there will be less air bubbles inside. Then I cover the top and stick it in the refrigerator. Rarely do I use more than a couple or no icecubes in the smoothie, since I need my core body temperature to stay as high as possible to ensure a quick recovery from training.

"So cliche, yet so ignored. My parents want me to be a doctor or a lawyer, but unfortunately it is not my passion."

I decided to become financially independant. Mine wanted me to be a doctor/lawyer as well, but it just made me
