I started my journey into Vegetarianism to try and limit my food choices to aid my anorexia. Luckily, I managed to get through that tough stage of my life and I watched Earthlings and knew I had to switch to become Vegan. A few weeks later I became violently ill and developed loads of food allergies (including eggs and dairy), which limited my food choices even further. This lifestyle of HCRV has been the best for me health rise (and morals) and I can tell that my body is really in a happy continuum (FINALLY!)

The Sun Shined Today

Posted on February 17, 2012 at 8:50pm 0 Comments

Today, February 17th marks the 2 year anniversary to when my friend had past away. She was 15 at the time and past away from a go-carting accident. It was an emotionally difficult day, but the sun shined. I'm not religious at all but it was a nice thought thinking that the sun shine might be a smile from her, to tell us that she is watching over us.

Its amazing how much can happen in 2 years.

I listened to the song "Keep Breathing" by Ingrid Michaelson. I am…

Looking Back

Posted on February 16, 2012 at 10:30pm 5 Comments

I'm struggling a lot. 3 years ago i started into the downward spiral of anorexia. I was 15 at the time and at my lowest I weighed 40kg, and I was 159 cm making my BMI 15.6. I stopped after a year because I just couldn't take it. But now I am really struggling with my self image. I know that an eating disorder is a bad thing and I never intend to go back down that path, but i still feel that when I was at my lowest weight, that was when I was most beautiful. Yes, I know this sounds pathetic…

Love Yourself

Today marks another day in the calendar. I'm actually really happy today. I ate completely raw. Though I must admit I definitely was tempted to eat some potatoes about 30 minutes ago. It's incredible how much better you feel!

The same thing with Yoga. It is just such a powerful from of movement that really allows you to search deep within yourself. Actually, probably all sports allows you to do this and really tests your strength. But recently my calfs have been really hurting so I've…

Hi! Haven't been able to stick to it completely yet for more than a couple of days at a time but keep trying each day to get enough fruit in so I don't choose the other sickening, cooked and processed vegan food. So I'm still not "on the wagon" but desperately trying to get a hold. :D This site is sure great for the inspiration. I've been trying for about 8 months now.

Hey Emi,

I'd be happy to offer advice :)

It's somewhat difficult being raw on the SSCS ship, and because I am raw I was declined the option of going to Antarctica. It's only because of my history working with the organization that they're willing to work with my diet for a shorter campaign.

I ate plenty of bananas, dates, mangos, and greens. There is only 30 minutes allotted for each meal period, in which you have to prepare your own food, eat it and clean up...Then back to work. You can use the blender periodically on the ship, but I felt like I was being a nuisance. I had a small box of my own food in the cold storage, but on a few occassions it was mistaken for the ships food and was eaten by everyone else. It's just a possible risk. If you do go on campaign make sure to put your name on your food, and try to keep some in your room in a box, or under your bed.

I would advise to keep it very simple and don't make a big deal about your diet. They were very open to hearing about it, but it's still unchartered territory. The easiest campaigns to be raw on are in Taiji, the Galapagos, and shorter at sea campaigns.

I hope that helps :)

Hey Sky,

That's wonderful to hear! We're always needing more volunteers to help out with campaigns, on shore or at sea and also at events and tables.

If you're in Hong Kong you may be interested in the Taiji, Japan campaign to help end the dolphin slaughter. Check it out: http://www.seashepherd.org/cove-guardians/
