Crunch Time

Posted on June 6, 2010 at 12:21pm 2 Comments

Hot weather is just around the corner here. I have about 10 more pounds to go, got to turn it up a notch. Zero fat today, day isn't over but after I finish eating half this watermelon I'm going to the kitchen to tidy up, fill up my water bottle and be done in there. I'm pretty bad for late night snacking and of course its never on fruit. I've had so much fruit today so hopefully that'll keep me away from the kitchen later on.… Continue

Today:

Big fruit salad this am.

Jumped on cellerciser for approx. 20min

A few bananas

2 large bowls of salad with a dressing.

Funny how some people do the opposite of what others say. I just don't get it.

It makes me laugh though. An example of this happened not too long ago. I was hanging out with my older sister, her husband and their daughter one day. They had plans to go to the farmers market so they invited me to go with. My sister and I went to grab some… Continue

Had a fruit salad in the AM and then a salad later in the day. The dressing was cashew base.. I dont think my fat % was 10 or below.

Still waiting for fruit to ripen! Looks like tomorrow will be a day of only apples.

Looked into doing the Insanity work out program.. Looks good we'll see :)

Its been over a week since my first post.

I've been on track since then, eating loads of fruit, 3 meals a day, working out. I know I have been eating way more than what I am use to but it feels good and even just over a week into it I notice a difference in my body.

Today was my day off which became a lazy day. For some reason I eat way more than I should on these days. Today hasn't been good. I've had 3 handfuls of pistachios and then it got worst..

Just trying to drink lots of… Continue

i think there may be some numerical discrepancies. for instance, the requirements for a soya sauce substitution for salt is not consistent. i tend not to worry too much about it though since it is unlikely there will be any deficiencies provided they eat sufficiently. many of these figures really have little validity for kittens just as the rda amounts for humans are relatively meaningless since they are simply theoretical projections based on lab setups. for instance, us vegans will likely be 'deficient' in b12, protein, and a whole host of other items, but then we'll also be deficient in various illnesses to.

the key thing, imho and experience, is to be sure that they eat enough, but not gluttonously (unless there is a digestive disorder which prevents them from processing everything properly). their bodies will figure out the proportions. if you want me to look into this further though, let me know.

however, if you are concerned, please feel free to email or phone james peden. he has been very helpful and provides good answers we have found.

the recipes are wetfood - we make and refrigerate about 3 days worth for our 4 cats.

three recipes are below for our 4 cats. i've just put down what we made - the last one though is by far the most favored ... they really like the garbanzo!!

you'll want something a bit different though in that you'd substitute vegekit for the vegecat since you have baby kittens. also, do not use braggs as a substitute for soya sauce (as we did originally). the former is a great alkalizer, while the latter is an excellent acidifier (which is what you want for cats).

james peden's book vegetarian cats and dogs is excellent, btw (so is james peden!). if you want, i can scan and send you the kitten recipes from there ... there are quite a few you can try. just email me at prad@towardsfreedom.com and i'll get it to you.

prad

oat recipe (1 day for our 4 cats)

2/3 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 tvp (you can use 1/2 pound tofu as well but it goes bad within a few hours)
1/4 cup torula yeast (supposed to be lower in magnesium than brewers or nutritional yeast)
1-2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp vegecat
1/8 tsp salt (we use soya sauce)
a touch of garlic

lentils recipe (2.5 day for 1 cat according to hoana book)

1.5 cups cooked lentils
.3 cup tvp
.25 cup yeast powder
1 tbsp olive oil
1/8 tsp salt
3 tsp vegecat

garbanzo recipe (3 day for our four cats)

3 cups raw (but soaked overnight) garbanzo beans (chickpea)
1.6 packages tofu (processed with calcium sulfate not otherwise)
1.3 cups yeast powder (vegeyeast by hoana is best)
5.3 tbsp olive oil
6 tbsp vegecat
4 tsp shoyu (soya sauce)

hi again sarah!

our cats eat primarily homemade veg food with hoana supplements:
http://www.vegepet.com/
they also eat some evolution kibbles:
http://www.petfoodshop.com/

the cats and i much prefer the former though - we know what's going in there and it's all organic. i can send you the recipe if you want. there are quite a few from hoana, but they all definitely like the garbanzo the best!

carbon and grizu have been veg for more than 3.5 yrs while the youngsters opi and obi are that way for almost 1 yr. we got them when they were just a few weeks old, so i know what a delight it must be for you to experience chloe and zoe's presence and development!

i'll have a story about the cats on the animals are my friends ... group before too long.
you can read about our 2 veg dogs though riky and jumpr on there though if you wish:
the rikster
the pig dog
