I had been plagued with ill-health for as long as I could remember and the health service had given up on me diagnosing my problems as psychosomatic, shoved me on to anti-depressants and put me on the waiting list for CBT. I asked my GP if he thought it could possibly be food-related, but he waved this away, and declared it simply the lastest faddy pseudo-science. I struggled on for another year, but then I had an epiphany as I was eating a cheese sandwich, there was something definitely wrong with what I was eating. At that point, my reaslisation had nothing to do with the ethics of what I was stuffing into my maw, but the substance of the sandwich: It was a block of cheese sliced in half spread with cream-cheese and some green leaves - no bread. This was normal for me, as was eating kilner jars of mustard with a spoon.
I had a food intolerance blood test, and dscovered I was sensitive to dairy, eggs, mustard, yeast and sesame. Upon removing these from my diet, I began to feel better within three days, despite the massive DTs I was suffering. My health rapidly began to improve and I felt better and stronger than I'd ever been previously. I never caved in and ate the poisons, but I never wanted to or felt any cravings despite being previously addicted.
After a few years, I began to realise that, I was only comparatively healthy, there was still something not right, moreover, and just as importantly, I wasn't morally healthy as far as my diet was concerned, so my next step was to become vegan..
The same occurrred as the previous elimination process- a striking and almost immediate improvement in vitality - body and conscious.
A short time after, I heard of people who were raw foodists. Turned out they were the low-carb, high-fat raw, and I thought it sounded quite foul, but it was interesting, the avoidance of cooking, so I started researching the subject and one of the first images I found was of Freelee beaming, hair scraped back and downing a bucket of orange juice. I was entranced; there was something so strange - in a very VERY good way! - about how she looked; other-worldly. Quite apart from her enormous beauty, there was something you just do not see that often, something ineffable, radiant; health - Life, Love incarnate. So I clicked further... and here I am.
I have been eating high-carb, mostly raw, (always) vegan for the last two years. The last 6 months have been highly traumatic and stressful from a personal point of view, so I am physically at a low point and look a wreck in comparison to what I was at the start of last summer. My sleep has been erratic, and my water consumption hasn't been consistant, but I have solidly been 80-10-10, and I have kept as carbed up as possible. I have to pay tribute to the way of life, because I really think that I would have had a serious breakdown, given the events I've experienced, had I not had that strength of foundation the lifestyle provides.
Tribute too to Durian Rider and Freelee, for their tirelessly passionate crusade; not to forget the peacekeepers and all the members of this site. Thank you for your help; I've been a long-term lurker, but I feel like you are my friends, so I'd like you to regard me as yours now, too.
With love xx
