My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are....
The 80/10/10 Diet, of course. As for other books, almost anything having to do with parrots and their wellbeing. Also enjoying Nietzsche and a few other philosophers. Getting into Tolle with The Power of Now! And 80's movies are still the best.

Mother Earth

I learn from the river how to keep flowing.
The trees teach me to bend and sway with whatever comes my way.
I learn from the sky to keep my heart and mind open,
The snow teaches me to fall with grace.

I learn from the sun to shine bright, to trust without fear or fright,
The mountains teach me to be patient and humble,
to stand strong when I want to crumble,
I learn from the moon to let go,
to embrace change,
Let her guide my way to a new day.

Mother Earth helps us grow and flow,
So take it slow with that radiant glow
Learn to just bee.

Fruit isn't appealing...

Arrrgh. This has happened before on "transitions". It's less than a week in, and nothing fruity or vegetabley sounds good to eat. So, I haven't eaten. Which I'm alright with, but I am hungry. Isn't it supposed to go that if you're truly hungry, fruits or vegetables sound just as good as any other food? But now all I want is high calorie cooked stuff! This happens, and then I way undereat, then I binge on cooked. It almost happened last night when I felt emotionally hurt on top of being hungry… Continue

Yeah... let's not talk about it. =)

I don't really have anything to say, but I feel good. This can be really easy.

Is this my last day 2?

I AM AN 811 RAW VEGAN!

No more excuses. I first read 80/10/10 nearly 2 years ago and still haven't done it. I've made progress-- from SAD to vegan (junk food vegan!)-- I still have food issues. The longest I've done 811 at once is about 2 weeks. It seems so easy while I'm doing it, and I'm so happy, so I just have to do it. It's simple.

Last night I had a dream that I completely stumped someone with the logic and science of 811,…

Days 2, 3, and 4 of the Animal Ethics Conference

Posted on April 2, 2010 at 4:30pm 1 Comment

I LOVE the experiences I've been having! But I've literally been out of the house from 9 AM - 9 PM the last couple days, staying at the conference then just hanging about with Koedy in the occasional breaks. I can't imagine anyone I'd rather experience this conference with; it always sparks great discussion.

Day 2 Koedy couldn't make it, but there was only one talk. Bernard Rollin gave a talk entitled "Emerging Social Ethics for Animals: Animal Rights as a Mainstream…

Animal Ethics Conference! Earthlings!

Posted on March 30, 2010 at 4:30pm 5 Comments

Today was the first day of the Animal Ethics conference at UVU. I learned about it here from prad and I'm so glad I did! Got the whole week off to go to all of the events.

Today the first speaker was Jane Akre. She focused more on News ethics than Animal ethics, but her news story came about because of rBGH use in dairy cows. (And I got some nice tidbits to share with my Fox-watching mother.) I don't think she's even vegetarian but I don't know. She spoke of how rBGH can be…

That is to bad. It would be nice to find a cheap wholesaler... We will have to keep our eyes open :) I have never heard of Winco. I will have to check that place out. I usually shop at Costco, Whole Foods or Smiths. I did check out Sunflower Market last week. Their persimmons were on sale. It was my first time trying them. They were alright, not to die for though. Costco dates are terrible. I get the worst head aches from them. I think it is because they are steamed so they are not really raw, but ya.
We should find some other LFRV's in Utah and have a pot luck or something fun like that :)

thanks, i guess ive just always been interested in health and started evaluating my diet at a young age. i think i was 13 when i first considered going vegan, but i didnt really know how to go about it haha so i ended up going vegan right after i turned 17 and when i first considered going raw, i did some research and stumbled apon all of that super food talk and i was instantly turned off, but i found one of harleys videos and since then ive tried to go raw a couple of times but just didnt eat enough. so im giving it another good try :] lol and youre right, it is a fun journey :]

Its sad because birds are very social creatures. I guess if they have some form of interaction thats good.
You let yours fly outside?
From what the previous owner told us they are between the ages of 3 to 5. We got them about 3 months ago.
Wow 8 and 11. Do you know for how long they live?

Hey Mandi.
Its cool. I love birds too. They are interesting creatures.
I had no idea that you could feed them spinach. I will give it a try. Although Pepe The lilac Crowned Amazon is such a picky eater. Coquito will eat almost anything I think he is a Mexican Red Headed Amazon. I am guessing that they are both males. But sometimes they get low and start shaking their wings, other times they get up straight and get excited. So its hard to tell.

Also its good to know about the peanuts. I will stop feeding them to them. I think I should just stick with pumkin seeds instead. But I dont want to feed them too much fat since they are prone to weight gain.

When they molt do I have to give them some supplements?
And yes Coquito the one without the wings clip has taken flight indoors. Sometimes hitting himself with the wall. We have to keep an eye on him all the time. They even get down from their cage if they are left alone. I was in the kitchen once and one got down and walked to the kitchen from his cage. lol .

Yes it took him about a week to get better. Just keept him warm and fed him fruits. And fresh water.
Also got a heated lamp for him as well.

Your Macaw has gorgeous colors.
Almost like a rainbow.
Thats so nice that they ended up with such a good home. You seemed to really love your birds. Do they get along well?
How old do you think they are?
