HIGH RAW VEGAN since 5 June 2014
I have always had an interest in nutrition & health, and since a young age, I have led an active lifestyle (dancing, sports, and now Zumba instructing). After moving out of my house (where my parents always cooked and promoted healthy eating) and flying over to Australia to study university, it occurred to me that I had to take my dietary and lifestyle choices into my own hands; to be more aware and responsible for my well-being. Before coming into university and hearing about things like the "freshman15", I was determined to ensure I never fell into that and kept fit. I discovered the book "Fit For Life" and followed the principles carefully, however, maybe thinking too much about it. There's a chapter that discusses the time you need to wait after certain meals before you can eat fresh fruit. Thinking back now, I was always just counting the hours until I'd be able to eat that fruit! I ended up gaining weight and working out excessively. I later moved on to a paleo diet, cutting carbs out COMPLETELY. I slimmed down and looked good, but I was still restricting what I was eating to maintain my physique and didn't feel my optimum. Due to a near-obsession with working out, during my first 3 years at uni I developed a stress fracture in my shin, a torn intercostal muscle, gastritis, and a rib injury. I wasn't a fan of getting sick (who is anyway), plus, I was continually dealing with acne issues, which I've been battling for the past 8 years now. I knew I had to slow things down and realign myself. I didn't like taking medication, whether for the flu or for my skin, and knew there must be another way. At the tail-end of my rib injury, I fasted on water for a day. I wanted to reset. The next day, I broke my fast with oranges. Oranges, all day. Then, something clicked. I've been on fasts before, but there was something different about this one. I felt a burst of energy and a light went on. I felt better than ever, better than when I was eating what would be considered a "normal" diet, better than the paleo, just better and so energised! Instantly, I jumped on the computer and started researching. One thing led to another and somehow I landed on articles and YouTube videos on fruitarianism. I was intrigued. I continued eating all fruit for a few days and at breakfast one morning, a friend and I started chatting about diet, Loni Jane and she asked me if I heard about Freelee the Banana Girl. As soon as I got back to my room I landed on Freelee's YouTube channel and watched at least 5 hours worth of videos. Then I realised: this is it. All of my endeavours for a healthy, sustainable, abundant lifestyle, and I had found it! It only took Freelee's educational videos for me to make the switch. And so I did.
I love the healing I've experienced from the inside out. The clarity, the (clean) energy, the peace. It is so simple and just makes sense! This has definitely been a turning point in my life - it has been an incredible journey so far and is only going to get better and better each and every day :)

I really enjoy reading about the testimonials people have since transitioning into this lifestyle, so I would mainly like the support and guidance, especially living in the social and cultural world we are in today where veganism/raw veganism are not the norm or catered for often.
