My journey to this lifestyle has been a long one...ever since I was a child I flirted with the idea of vegetarianism. I had an aversion toward meat and I pleaded for my parents to allow me to become vegetarian (more than a few times, haha). When I was 16 years old, I ventured off to Europe for a few weeks to visit my dearest aunt and uncle--whom were both vegetarians! There, I realized the practicality and sustainability of a veggie lifestyle. I returned home...and haven't eaten meat since. It took me about 8 years to transition over to a high carb, low-fat, (mostly) raw vegan lifestyle (which I've fully embraced and have been relishing in since summer!). I have a passion for health and nutrition; I've studied nutrition and dietetics in the past, but decided that route wasn't for me--I simply do not agree with Western nutritional logic...if it can even be called, "logic"...I've done a lot of research and am continually learning and experiencing for myself the critical healthfulness of this lifestyle!

My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are....
I love reading...particularly non-fiction :). I enjoy many titles written by anthropologists, Richard Dawkins and Ernest Mayr. Other notables: Open Heart, Clear Mind by Thubten Chodron and The Universe in a Single Atom by the Dalai Lama. Oh, and of course: The China Study, Whole, The 80/10/10 Diet, and The Starch Solution. Reading aside, I also enjoy practicing yoga, going on long, early morning walks, hiking, and traveling!

To get started. Be sure to note food, calorie, water, sleep recommendations and log (can use www.cronometer.com or similar) your food/drink intake, at least for the first few months to get used to what you need to eat to stay on target calorie wise as well as macronutrient (carbs:fat:protein) wise. Even if someone is a long time, established, raw vegan, it is possible to discover some things using "hard-data"; spot trends, be able to make good adjustments, that might not be possible otherwise.
