I have read online that a lot of people love their dehydrators but I don't want to go down the dehydrator route as the emphasis on 80/10/10 is to be well hydrated and to eat mostly fresh raw fruit. Dehydrators take all the moisture out of the food. I think eating stuff like that would probably set me off on a cooked food addiction pattern. I'd rather try to stay away from the savoury snacks as I would end up craving them all the time instead of the fruit. I always feel so much better physically and mentally when I manage to eat only fruit and greens and if I stay away from sprouted things and fats. I used to eat so many nuts and my joints always hurt afterwards.
You're very lucky working with fresh juices and smoothies! Where was the vegan festival? I don't actually know anyone else at all apart from my own family who are vegans!
I'll look you up next time I'm up in town. I have had yummy juices from Zumo before! I don't tend to go into Belfast too often at the moment as I live out in Whitehead near Carrickfergus and lead a very quiet life, going for walks in the country and up round the lighthouse. I used to live and work in Belfast but now I get like a total culture shock if I go into the centre of Belfast after I haven't been up there for a while. It's always really mad and noisy and filled with people which I used to love but now find a bit much.
That's amazing that you did a raw liquid detox for 40 days! I would never manage that. I have got into the habit of eating mainly fruit with some greens for the minerals every day. I find it really easy to eat fruit all day and feel full up but in the evenings I sometimes crave savoury stuff. It's better if I just eat more fruit instead because the cravings go away but if I eat a big, giant salad with loads of tomatoes I end up craving salt which is my downfall. I want to stay off the salt but sometimes end up eating crisps!!
It's great that you have always stayed vegan. I had been vegetarian for 20 years and then for some reason i ate fish for a couple of years. I never felt right doing that and I went back to being vegetarian. I started 80/10/10 and veganism at the same time so even though I sometimes cheat and have cooked food I will be vegan forever. I have even converted my partner and 6 year old son to veganism and they have stuck to it for over 9 months now!
Great to see someone else from NI on here! What juice company do you work for and where is it? I love to get juices if I'm ever up in town. I love carrot, apple, celery and a bit of ginger thrown in for a treat. I know it's not completely 80/10/10 to use ginger but I do slip up from time to time. At the minute I am mostly living off bananas and dates and pink lady apples. I have found over the past couple of years that my cheapest and best bananas are from Sainsbury. I get groceries delivered once a week and I get 20 bags of Fair trade bananas delivered. They are £1.15 a bag and you get at least 8 very large bananas in each bag. I get my dates in the local village fruit and veg shop. They are proper fresh medjool dates too, not horrible dried ones covered in sugar. They are actually cheaper in this shop than in Tesco or anywhere else.
How long have you been following 80/10/10? I've been doing it for more than a year and a half now. I try to stay 100% but have cheated loads of times. Because of my health I'm now really trying to stick to it and I always try to follow good food combining guidelines even if I end up eating cooked food. If I eat cooked food I try to make sure it's just potatoes and veg, no bread and definitely nothing non-vegan.
Aw shame I missed you! I didn't get a chance to check this while I was there and it all turned out to be quite rushed in the end, just on the ferry out now. Ah, next time !!
I must say I never looked for any fruit whilst I was there, ended up eating just a few bananas and dates I already had and completely under carbed myself, but I'll dose up once I'm home, in 8 hrs hmmmm. Belfast is a pretty interesting place tho, the people are so open, cheery and friendly and everyone seems to be a musical genious! Haha at least the folk I met.... :)
Hi Debbie, I'm coming to Belfast from Northern England to my visa interview, on the 18th - 19th may. Any advice on where to go for fruit load up? If you're around I'd love to meet up so you can show me around your glorious city! And if you have a couch you could spare for a night or two, that would be spectacular - I have some offerings on couchsurfing, but would prefer to hang with the fruit obsessives :D
Hey Debbie, yeah me and my bf recently started it. I'm finding it a bit difficult... I think it's trying to fit it in with the lifestyle? And as you said, I don't know any other like minded people from here at all. And people look at me like I'm not wise! :) How you doing with it? xo
