I've been a yoyo dieter since high school. I've tried restricting my calories, eating high protein low carb, eating nearly nothing each day, juice cleanses, water fasts, you name it! I was always trying to lose weight. I recently traveled to thailand for a silent meditation retreat where I learned that what is most important is loving yourself and being committed to keeping yourself healthy. I felt amazing while there. I quit taking drugs, drinking, and smoking. Coming back to a cold new england winter, however, has proved challenging. I find myself lethargic, depressed, unmotivated, and lacking energy. I'm currently vegan but have trouble dealing with disapproving words of my friends and family. I've been watching a lot of Freelee and Durianrider's videos and getting motivated to really get on track with a healthy lifestyle. I've signed up for a half marathon and am back on as a vegan but want to make sure I am an 80 10 10 vegan so that I can reap the amazing benefits of the vegan lifestyle and never feel the need to harm animals. Morally, I feel wrong eating animals, especially after learning more about buddhism and studying the yoga sutras. One yama is non harming--- I want to stick to this, as a yoga instructor, which means not harming myself with toxic food or thoughts, others, or animals. I've tried changing my lifestyle many times but I finally feel that I have found something that will work. I love fruit! I always have! and fresh veggies! I just need the support and help of a community to keep me on track and people who will listen to my struggles and provide me with support rather than tell me I need more protein, esp animal protein.
