Please share your experiences with others here. If you're suffering let us know. If you've had success overcoming depression it would be great to hear about that too.

Consider B12

As well as having a great diet made of fruits and vegetables (maybe some flaxseed)and eating enough of them, I recommend people look into B12 supplements. Try to avoid cyanocobalamin B12 and go for the other types (hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, methylcobalamin). If you take hydroxocobalamin make sure you're getting enough folate, but don't take folic acid as a supplement as it has been shown to cause harm. Sublinguals or injections are the best.

If you really can't eat enough calories from fruit then turn to starches like sweet potato, rice, oats, or regular potatoes. It's better to be full up on cooked carbohydrates than undereat on fruit in most cases. Your mind and body will suffer if you don't eat enough.

Some info on Iodine you might be interested in http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/thyroid-depression-mental-health/. I don't know about it myself but I guess it's worth looking into.

Hey LIz

Yes this group is not an active group which is either means we are all under the sheets curled up in a ball trying to keep the world at bay, or we are using our knowledge of plant based nutritional health and wellbeing to live a full live that keeps us busy and doing other things than sitting at home trying to find imaginary friends on the interwebs.

Let us hope the former is not the case :-)

I do not frequent this forum as much as I have done in the past though I keep an eye out for any bit of conversation from threads I am involved in...such as this.

I think we are always in a state of flux and it is a natural state of affairs to have some aspects of life be "still messed up"  If you can recognize that as a totally appropriate learning experience I am sure it will lead you to a better place of understanding and acceptance of what is.

For me the understanding the importance to cultivate the state of equanimity in one's life is a very powerful tool.

We are spreading the message of raw foods and understanding the importance of an alkaline sweet ph balance in our shop here in Australia. You can find our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Remergylifestyle

Hey all,

This group seems pretty quiet as of the late. How are you all doing? Some aspects of my life are still messed up, but the depression isn't so bad these days. At least not a 'paralyzing' kind of bad.

Anyone here open to receiving my 'friend requests' or sending them to me? I would really like to get to know some people on 30bad, especially people who understand the struggle of mood disorders.

Thanks Russell, your advice is helpful.

Hey Liz Jones

If you allow yourself to drop the word struggle and vegan I would expect your life to look better instantly.  In all areas of our life we meet resistance to "expectations" of how it should go or be. A plant based diet with an exercise and meditation regime attached to it will serve you well to help with your depression issue.

If you reach out..... like you are doing now..... to people who are able to give you support and have an understanding of what you are going through, you are on the right path.

A state of feeling unworthy has a greater impact on your mental and physical well being, than your "struggle" to stay "vegan."

Cultivating a sense of self worth/ self love has a longer and more positive outcome than "sticking" to a diet or an idealization of a lifestyle.

Hi everyone,

I am having a hard time getting myself to post. Feeling unworthy of being a member of 30bad. I have been battling depression for most of my life, but I've really hit a bottom just over a year ago and I am still in it. Depression, ptsd, anxiety and phobias have warped me into someone I don't want to be.

However, I do believe that everything happens for a reason, even if I don't understand it. Most of the time I can't see the light at the end of this tunnel. Despite the struggle I am experiencing, I am grateful that depression lead me to this HCV lifestyle.

I mention that I feel unworthy of being a member of this online community because I struggle to stay vegan, nevermind high carb or raw. However, I am determined to stick with this HCV lifestyle because it gave me a renewed hope when I wanted to give up on life. Plus, I have tried a few diets (to lose weight) and they all drove me crazy but this of eating is something that I enjoy. Everytime I 'fall off the wagon' I crave the fruit and get back on board.

I've definitely been feeling better more often since I went HC Vegan :)

Hey lacy

I totally agree with brooke and am glad to read you will be in a counselling environment, it is one of the important factors that help with the management of depression episodes.

If you are able to get to a place that you can recognize the thought process that takes you on the spiral to feeling out of control, you are then in a position to change your thoughts.

This can also be applied to your expression of " feeling scared " about gaining weight.

Mindfulness is the glue that holds all the pieces in place for me as I navigate the world and all that it offers up.

Mindfulness is part of the trilogy that also includes understanding raw food nutrition, exercise and energetics.

Let go of the expectations of how things are supposed to be and allow yourself to be okay with what is.

Each persons circumstance is different, I hold out the intention that you will have a good experience with your counsellor enabling you to see that you are experiencing thoughts, that with the correct guidance can be observed and adjusted rather than go unrecognised and unnamed.

Thoughts are "slippery little suckers" and will always track neural pathways of least resistance, recognizing thoughts for being just that.......thoughts....... is a first step to learning not to to re-act to them with familiar patterns causing the unwanted results.

Please look up the MiCBT protocol that I am referring to I have seen some great results with it. if you need any more information just ask me.

Regards Russell

Just take things one day at a time and try not to put yourself under too much pressure. Keep up the high carb lifestyle and don't beat yourself up. Give yourself a break and take things slow. A good support network is so important. I understand how it feels to not feel in control and that you just want to push a fast forward button so you can move on to a better time in life but unfortunately life isn't always like that. Trust me,I'm just starting to come out of a 2 year period of depression. Hold on you'll be okay.

I was just diagnosed with depression about 3 weeks ago. I have had an eating disorder for 6 years now, which started due to a bad event in my life. I am on medicine right now but have had a bad reaction and I will start counseling tomorrow. I have seen depression in my family and everyone around me has done well. but I am still scared. I feel I have no control in my life anymore not even with food. I'm scared of gaining weight on a high carb diet and always beat myself up mentally over the amount of food I need to eat. But I feel good when I eat this way. Any suggestions on how to not allow depression to control everything?

@ CherylT

There are a few ways to include flax seeds or chia seeds into your diet. As you mentioned put them into a smoothie and use them as a filler, they get " gluggy" when wet and are good for thickening a tart base or dehydrated crackers. Here on the other side of the world Australia we are just going into winter but here in Queensland it is very mild :-) all the best if you would like a recipe let me know and I will post a link here.

@ claire&simple

Great comment "Mental and emotional well being are really just part of the whole lifestyle" to many people get stuck in the Rawfood will fix everything mantra and forget to connect the energetics and mindfulness that needs to be applied to a balanced " LIFESTYLE "
