The Fruit Identifiers

The Fruit Identifiers

I like to taste new fruits, and lately I have been buying some at the local Asian market, where people are unable to tell the english name of the fruits. Does that sound familiar?

Tell me what is is from a picture - it's my only clue!

I am pretty sure that many of you are in the same situation as I am: you'd like to know more about a fruit and the only thing you have with you is a picture of it and a delicious memory of how wonderful it tasted. So let's help each other identify these fruits! I guess we could also use the group as a guessing game ;)

No.1 is a Santol ...... thick rinded SE asian fruit with semi-acid but nonetheless refreshing pulp which sticks to the seed and is in 3-4 segments ......

real good idea michel to create this group , i'm also mad about discovering every new fruit i can...

but to ease  the identification please show them either totally and open in two and also with something to have a scale (like your hand or anything) or else can't figure the size....

this is a endless pleasure treasure hunt!! just awesome!

Unknown fruit No2:

This one is apparently traditionally eaten in Vietnam with salt mixed with chilli. It is mildly sweet and very crunchy. You just peel the thin skin off and you can eat it. No seed, just a weird web of hard spikes in the center. I remember that I was told it is called something like "sally fruit" or similar...

Unknown fruit No1:

This one's taste makes me almost think of meat. It has a very thick skin. You need to cut it in the middle to open it. Little flesh, hard to get off of the seeds.

I'll start with 2 of my recent purchases. I have no clue what these are. I can just tell you each one has a very specific taste!
