Calming the Frizzies?

Started by Peaches. Last reply by brina Dec 21, 2013. 11 Replies

Hey curly-haired friends!  I was wondering what you use on your hair to keep it from being so frizzy.  My hair is dry and I live in a rainy area, so it easily frizzes.  If I don't use anything on my…Continue

Hair texture change?

Hi everyone! It seems that my hair is starting to get less curly.  I notice I am having to scrunch it more and more and it still isn't curling as good as it used to.  I could be imagining this, but I…Continue

One website I found the most helpful was http://www.dreadlockssite.com/ .  There are so many people there that have great information on natural freeform dread locks.  Even just looking at the pictures on the site can be inspiring because for the first year or two of natural free form dreads, you feel like your hair will never dread up the way you wish it to.  I started my dread process in August of 2012 and every week I am surprised how much my hair changes.  You start to get to know every one of your dreads as they form and as the months go by you become more and more attached to them as you have put so much dedication into them.  I joke with most people that I am more dedicated to my hair than most people are dedicated to their significant other.   My dread process has taught me so much about myself.  I have learned to be more patient as this is a key aspect in dreading your hair.  Most people just want to rush into dreading their hair and resort to products and other hair damaging practices so that they can have dreads overnight.  I am so glad I took the all natural route and have no regret looking back.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for me and my dreads.  This picture was taken two years after I stopped combing/brushing my hair.

After just a month of changing how I ate back in 2012 I decided to go all natural with my hair care too.  I have to admit that I used to be an obsessive comber/brusher of my hair but throwing away all my combs and brushes made me feel so free.  This started the long process/journey that I was ready to embark upon.  After many many hours of research I learned that I wanted to dread my hair the all natural way (neglect), no back combing, rip n twist, and no waxes or products.  For the first year I washed my hair with ACV/Baking Soda bath.  About a year in i stopped using the ACV/.BS because it became a hassle and started using Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap.  I usually wash my hair two to three times a week depending on how dirty I feel.  This photo is from the very start of my journey.

Loepsie's sock bun videos are really good too, if you haven't found any yet.

I think you meant Jenny B :) Unfortunately I couldn't give you advice cause I have the same 'problem' as you :)

@Liane....I have the same problem. No matter what I do my hair looks horrible on the second day. I always have to re-wet my entire head. Any suggestions would be great.

Liane,
Check out some sock bun tutorials on youtube. They are a great way to get some nice second day wave out of your hair.

is there anyone who has kinky curly hair out there? I would like to know how you take care of your hair in this lifestyle.

Thank you! Following your advice did wonders on my hair! I can't believe it was this easy xD
But how often do you take a shower and what do you do when you don't?
