Aloha! Where abouts at the Hilo farmer's market can I find Jan? I would love to hook up with non-gmo papaya. Mahalo in advance for your kokua. <3

I buy them from Pam when we need to purchase also. She's at the Pahoa and Hilo markets. We also grow most of what we need. Even growing our own does not guarantee non GMO :-(

Pam at the Hilo market has non GMO.  I just grow my own now.  Even then one can not be totally sure that they are not GMO.  bugs carry the pollen around.

I live on the Hilo side... and I am struggling with finding non-GMO papaya myself. I am not sure where to look! I ask at the farmer's market, but their answers aren't believable either way... lol

Interesting—so is it much easier/cheaper to find organics on the Hilo than the Kona side?

I'm in Kailua-Kona at the moment. I was getting all my papaya from the market here (crazy how expensive they are in the stores in comparison). They were cheap and tasty and it seems possibly quite unhealthy, possibly even the Solo (non-gmo type) ones, although most of what I was eating of late was of the Rainbow variety.

Whereabout are you Allyourwatermelonarebelongtome ? If you are in Puna or go to Hilo I should be able to point you in the right direction to find non GMO papayas.

Well I was eating a lot of the papaya and turns out a lot of what I was eating was a GMO variety and to top that off I'm told (now after I got sick) that they are heavily sprayed as well. Looking around at the available food supply is depressing. Why does the food supply have to be so fail? I've been on this diet for years with no slip-ups (but some errors in quantity of nuts and combining foods poorly). Was pretty much 100% organic till I got here and now I find myself struggling to find decent meals, let alone affording them. Do I need to abandon my sunny perch and go into the rainy Hilo zone to eat? (Haven't been there, can only hope good food is more available there). I'm not sure I can handle having to go back to bananas as a staple.

I'm looking for a cheap place to rent on the Big Island, as soon as possible. I'm currently staying at the hostel in Hilo, but it's costing me the little money I have saved up for rent this winter. Anything will do, a shack, a couch, a floor. Just looking for somewhere safe and dry.

Thank You!

I'm flying into Hilo December 11th. First time in Hawaii! if anyone wants to adventure, hike, horseback ride, camp, share great fruit or share their farm/land to camp on let me know.
