Welcome

Please share your experiences with others here. If you're suffering let us know. If you've had success overcoming depression it would be great to hear about that too.

Consider B12

As well as having a great diet made of fruits and vegetables (maybe some flaxseed)and eating enough of them, I recommend people look into B12 supplements. Try to avoid cyanocobalamin B12 and go for the other types (hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, methylcobalamin). If you take hydroxocobalamin make sure you're getting enough folate, but don't take folic acid as a supplement as it has been shown to cause harm. Sublinguals or injections are the best.

If you really can't eat enough calories from fruit then turn to starches like sweet potato, rice, oats, or regular potatoes. It's better to be full up on cooked carbohydrates than undereat on fruit in most cases. Your mind and body will suffer if you don't eat enough.

Some info on Iodine you might be interested in http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/thyroid-depression-mental-health/. I don't know about it myself but I guess it's worth looking into.

oh, another point ....
and running - or being at the gym, the lower i feel - the harder to go, but the more i MAKE myself, and the more amazing i feel when i finish (it replaced 'cutting' - good swap -) !

running, is an amazing depression killer!!! specially trail running which is what i love

have come off medication - was constantly on and off it anyway as i hated the way it made me feel 'emotionless' but have been medication free now for around 6 months or so?
but fight it every day, well, mostly fight suicidal ideations .... trying to change, diet i think, makes a HUGE difference, plus, used to be hooked on diet drinks, feel low when i have them and i DO feel the mood changes - always feel happier when i only drink water ...
did 30bad for 30 days , then went off for a couple of months, back on it again and, amazing how clear headed i become in comparison ... thoughts still there, but i can deal with them...
- oh, and hanging out with positive people - a HUGE help, dont allow others to bring you down with negativity - im fortunate for the first time in my life to have a great supportive bunch of friends around me who i have allowed to know 'the real me' - masks, are HARD work

peace

People who haven't suffered depression often find it to hard to understand. I made this group thinking it would be a place where people would understand each other and support each other.
