Well lets organize it!  I MUST HAVE WATERMELONS AT BURNING MAN!  I will bring at least a few of them and can bring some knives and a huge cutting board.  We can do watermelon carving or inject watermelons with fun stuff.

I am! There is no fruit camp that I know of. I just brought my own stash for the week. I did however find a fruitluck midweek. It was listed in the directory/book.

Is anyone going to Burning Man this year?  I just got my ticket and want to make sure there will be a fruit camp there.

Neat, I hadn't heard of Sacred Spaces but I just checked them out. Sounds like a fabulous camp to be camping with. Maybe I'll run into you out there!

Oh wow! I never heard of 4th of Juplaya, sound awesome. Thank you for sharing your experience out there. I was planning on bringing a lot of watermelons with me. I am camping with Sacred Spaces this year and I think there will be a few raw veggie options on the menu, but I am bringing my stash just in case.  Sounds like a lot of fun!

So, previously at Burning Man I wasn't an 801010'er. This year, however I will be.

I just got back from 4 days at Black Rock Dessert for 4th of Juplaya and was 801010. I thought it would be productive to share what I brought and worked. It's important to note that I had the luxury of a trailer with a fridge. The fridge is not huge but the trailer/fridge combo was fantastic in aiding me keeping my produce from the heat and the dry climate.

I found watermelon to be a perfect way to start the day to stay ahead of the curve of dehydration as the day heats up.

After I finished the melon I would move on to more fruit. This consisted of;

Bananas

Mangos (Delish! I brought 12 and enjoyed each one over the course of two of the afternoons. They survived perfectly)

Ahead of time I made a nice portion of date dip (dates, water- Vitamix) This was a great way to get calories as were the bananas. I brought apples for the the dip.

A great big thing of blueberries and grapes.

Ahead of time I prepared a freezer size ziplock bag of zucchini noodles with lemon juice and chopped up greens.

Each night for dinner I ate the zucchini pasta with cut up portobello mushrooms and tomatoes. I made a sauce ahead of time but it didn't taste good the second night. The pasta alone was delish.

I also brought figs (my favorite fruit). I was super bummed to find my batch was rotten.

I brought a pineapple to cut up and mix with strawberries. The pineapple went bad before I could get to it.

As a backup plan I brought some dried figs in case a larger chunk of my fruit went bad but didn't end up needing to eat them.

I bought the supplies to make some date balls as another backup plan for needed calories but ran out of time before leaving for the playa. I do think they would be nice to bring to Burning Man as it is a longer event.

The lessons I learned were;

1.Bring more for sharing. ( I did share a lot of fruit happily )

2.Bring extra for risk of some spoiling.

Another thing I did was eat DARK green smoothies and Dark green ice cream for a few days leading up to the event and now that I am back I plan to do the same. I knew that big salads weren't going to be possible as they take up too much fridge space. I wanted to make sure to make up for that leading up and after. Many greens are running through me again! I really missed my vitamix for that reason but there would have been no way to really clean it out properly with the set up I had. Limited water supply and grey water tank.

So there it is! My first 801010 playa experience.

Also, just in case you don't already know what 4th of Juplaya is. It's a separate event from Burning man with the same flavor. Much different though, no structure or organization. Complete self reliance. Camps are spread out all over the playa instead of all together. There are no rules and you can totally explore the land. Some set up sound camps, bouncy houses, bars and such. Some just go out and camp and explore. It's a beautiful time. Some say it's reminiscent of the beginning days of Burning Man.
