thanks for the advice Shanti and Chris - can't wait to find the sugar cane juice - I've had it in chiang mai and love it. I have thus far (in bangkok) been feasting at the supermakets - love the fresh juice at paragon - but its starting to get really expensive - I need to find the local markets soon and start cutting my fruit for myself! I do have a bike but I will be living way off in the burbs (pin kloa) so I am not sure how useful my bike will be - I really don't want to ride it on an insane highway and that limitation might make it hard to get my bike to town - but I am sure there should be places to bike to in pin kloa). Chris - I look forward to checking out your video - will have to wait until I have better internet access.
Warrarot is probably the best and easiest market to find in Bangkok, but there are lots of different places to look around and explore, especially if you have a bicycle. I am pretty sure there was another discussion here somewhere that talked about more details on markets and organic shops in bangkok. A lot of the organic shops sell quite a few local juices, I don't remember for sure but am pretty sure they had cane sugar. They definitely have a green juice which I like, hibiscus tea, passionfruit juice, and a few other types.
Does anyone know where to get fresh pressed sugar cane juice in bangkok????? Also interested to know if anyone can recomend a good fruit market for bulk purchases. Thanks in advance!
i'm in thailand now, until 5 jan 13. now in the north, but will be travelling around. From 6 jan: sri lanka and later south india... Anyone in thailand /sri lanka during those dates?
I get to Singapore JAn 31 ..... probably heading to West Sumatera to continue monkey research and tap into the durian season ...... Bukittinggi still my fave small city and within a 3 hour radius the most awesome range of tropical scenery from sea level to 3000m lotsa microclimates ..... volcanic soil ..... been going there since '97 got it pretty mapped out .... check my photos ...... went to Sarawak and Sabah last year in FEb ..... the fruit season was still really pumping ..... yeah amazing range of fruits good chempadek but the durian was not as good as INDO stocks ..... and my main complaint of Malaysia still is ...... yeah the cities are clean and good fruit there but its harder to find the nice $5 a night bungalow in a mind blowing nature location ..... Come to Bukit Lawang in Sumatera where your room is literally 3 m from a 30m wide rapids on an amazing river ..... then find that for me in Malaysia and I may switch allegiances ..... Been meaning to get there for years Mindanao island is considered the "fruit island" and durian capital of the Phillipines ..... also famous as the centre for marang ..... which is like a psychededlic jakfruit .... like eating liquid perfume drops .... mmm mmmmm .... anyway JEssica Chen is in Sarawak right now ...... Valentina Borisenko or Bebz Bantolo usually on the ground in Phillipines ..... contact them for a fruit season update ...... me I got my FB scouts letting me know when the West Sumatera durian is falling ...... usually up to 8-9 months a year in Bukittinggi ...... the best durian/pollution ratio I found ...... like Bangkok or Singapore may have it year round but you can't describe there as paradise because you are sucking in so many car fumes ...... In Bukittinggi we can get our durians and 10 minutes later (bicycle) be eating them by a fresh water river in a rift canyon surrounded by jungle and looking at a 3000m high volcano ..... I recommend ..... and come check my gardening project up North ...... 75 acres of land next to a blue river coming out of 1 million acres of national park ....
October 26 - but I will get there really late at night.
Alananana, great, let us know when you are here next!
I am in chiang mai about 3 weekends a month.
Ani, hello! We will most likely miss each other, but let's see for sure! xx
