Has anyone managed to find any at all? I'm intrigued to try it but all I can find is it ina can from tescos but it's in syrup so not sure how good that would be?
hi Gwen, I saw it fresh in the Thai supermarket Loon Fung in China Town about a month and a half ago. I did not buy it, so i don't know how it might taste. They have fresh durian as well, although now no longer in season.
Ah it's good to know it is available in some places then. I will be moving to Wolverhampton in a few weeks so I'm going to be on the look out for good places to source organic fruit and veg. I have seen that you can buy Jackfruit canned either ripe with syrup or green in brine and it's referred to as vegetable meat sometimes in Asian recipes? I take it's ok to eat it green if it's canned?
It needs cooking if it's green, if you cook for long enough it's texture resembles chicken, so it's used as a meat replacement.
You can buy it in Liverpool, bold street in Matta's
that is a bit far for you though :P
Ohh really? I might try and bob into Liverpool before I move and try it :)
Hi Lou whereabouts in Cardiff please ? im on a mission :) Thanks
Hey Lou thanks, yeah i know the area well, i was thinking the shops both sides of the petrol station would have it, i'm looking forward to strolling on by further ;)
Any in Kent, anywhere??!! Would love to try jackfruit, don't care if it's fresh or frozen!!
There was some in the Asian grocers near me in Old Trafford in about June or July. Quite expensive, but I always try a new fruit if I can, whatever the cost. I seem to recall it tasted a bit like marshmallow or bubblegum.
It taste so delicious!!! I've been searching it though
You will find it in most oriental stores, mostly packed in a packaged state with the other fruit and veg. To see a whole jackfruit for sale is uncommon though!
Any known places near Dudley/Wolverhampton/Birmingham that sell it? Would love to try some! :-)
