30 Bananas a Day!

I'd like to share a poem written by a very dear friend of mine. In the summer of 2006, he decided to take his own life at the age of 19. He was a very talented poet, and he once confided in me that his dream was to share his poetry with others.

I was recently reminded of Joe - and this poem - and i thought it would be appropriate to share on this forum.

Blessings,

Danny

The Winds of Eternity
A poem by Joe Burns (1987-2006)

The winds carry with them crumbling legends,
And yet they contain much more than the past,
For on the breezes of Eternity sails
The dice which the Future casts

It must be more than just a memory,
When the winds embrace my breaking bones,
It must be more than just Nature speaking
When, with the wind, the great Oak moans

For the Ancient Oaks know more than I,
They have seen centuries come and go,
They each have given a seed from themselves,
Their children; released to the cold wind’s flow

Those seeds that survive evoke a ripple in time,
The moment they are embraced in the soil,
Some become the future forests,
And some are lost to men who toil

And the trees that live on in the breeze,
They leave their mark in the sandy stone,
Their footprints twisting coils in rock
Along which their saplings have grown

And in the rocks dwell more ancient spirits
They have weathered eons more than the trees,
Perhaps the rocks rose before the world’s dawn,
And they have seen all a thing may see

For the Mountains and the Canyons live on,
After all the trees and beasts have departed,
And certainly they stood testament to time,
Before time had even started

What will remain when all stands still?
When man, with his false time, is done?
When our cities are dust and Earth a crust,
When no light shines forth from the sun

The oaks and the cliffs will crumble away,
Like Time’s legends on frigid winds,
They will flow forth forever as whispers,
Muttered to the core where all begins

And the only body the winds will caress,
Will be the One no man has seen,
But as is life the process will renew,
And life will awaken from its dream

And the winds will blow forth again,
To some new center of space and time,
Where new creatures, ignorant of the Pyramids,
Will be chilled by their architect’s rhymes.

that is beautiful, thank you~ bless your dear friend.
That is amazingly beautiful.
To have such understanding at such a young age...

.sigh.

i suppose it really isn't the years in our life
but the life in our years
as they say

but still to read words with such depth of emotion
and to know that this soul chose to leave this planet
is a little heart-wrenching

it is like he has written his soul into this eternal landscape...

Meleakua,

Ya know, I'm continually amazed by the depth of this poem and the understanding therein..

He was indeed a brilliant poet and beautiful soul..

What else is suicide but an expression of an unhealthy world? When the macrocosm is sick and unbalanced, the sickness manifests through the microcosm. In my healthy world suicide is nonexistent. Fortunately, though, human culture is not something static and fixed -- it is dynamic, ever-changing. It is truly our privledge and duty to take accountability for ourselves, and in this way CREATE culture. Our planet is on the cusp of so much change - socially, politcally, enviromentally etc. We can all feel it -- its electrifying. Amidst all the negativity and there is a lot of positive things forming and taking place. Its really quite exciting. What is our personal role in this unfolding drama?

As i write this, on this new day, i ask for renewal -- renewing my vow to take accountability for my actions through my speech, body, and body.

Blessings! Sincerely,
danny
